As far as I know ALL ammo that is safe to shot is range safe ammo.

Or, are you asking a different question?

Maybe a question that has to do with steel core ammo?

It's more likely he is looking for ammo without steel in the bullet jacket or the bullet core. He is probably located in SoCal. Yes, Yugo is the only surplus 7.62x54 and 7.62x39 ammo with no steel in the projectile. The Yugo surplus 7.62x54 is very hard to find these days. For the Yugo surplus 7.62x39 you can still find it at Wideners and a few other places. Beware that Yugo surplus is corrosive, so clean your bore with a water based cleaner after using it.

i think yugo is steal core......i found some non FMJ at big5 before...i just dint like it because its little more for hunting, i think it was 174grain vs 149grain(what my spam cans say)

Yugo produced surplus uses projectiles with a lead core and a copper jacket. No steel in the projectile at all. There is some 7.62x54 ammo on the market that is Soviet WWII produced but was later repacked by the Yugoslavians. It has steel in the projectiles.

Yup I mean non magnetic ammo/non steel core. I have a stash of milsurp 5R's and 39's for shooting at blm areas but they are no go at the most range as we all know. Currently, am using Winchester whitebox for 54R's and Fiocchi for 39's which are freakin expensive.

This C & R thing is so addictive and expensive. I just got my first MN middle of September, now a month later, I added another MN, A Mauser and SKS.

yep, go yugo for the x39. Buy in bulk and save.

non magnetic 54r is pretty much non existent since the yugo stuff dried up. It's time for you to learn to reload. It'll save you money, and you'll have better ammo.

You can get Prvi Partizan commercial 7.62x54R at Aim for $12.95 per box in bulk. That's before shipping though. That's probably the cheapest "non-magnetic" you will be able to find right now in that caliber.

If you don't mind corrosive primed ammo then the Yugo surplus 7.62x39 is going to be your cheapest option in that caliber.

There was a booth at the Ontario gun show over the weekend that had the yugo non magnetic 54R. He was asking 10 bucks for a box of 15. I walked the entire show and nobody else had them. I wound up picking up 5 just because I've been itching to shoot my mosin. He had at least 20 boxes left.

Go to the Miwall ammo booth.
Buy non-magnetic ammo.

Why not just buy the Prvi Partizan from Aim Surplus? It's non-corrosive and boxer primed. Made by the same company that made the surplus stuff, but it's 30 years fresher. Even if you don't reload you'll end up with at least $4 per box in reloadable brass you can sell.

I agree, market price for Yugo ammo a few months ago when there was some still left was just above $3 for 15 rounds, that guy is making a killing. At that price I would shoot Prvi and sell or reload the brass.

Actually, I like the PRVI stuff a lot. Great for other calibers too....
