It's $30. I don't know why they leave it up to you to fill in.

If you notice in the .pdf there is a second copy that gets filled out as you enter the information (unless you're doing it by hand, then you fill it out). That gets mailed to the chief of police or sheriff where you live to notify them of what you're doing. It's a formality really. If you're not sure, someone put it best that if you call 911, who shows up? That's who it goes to.

federal law requires you to be at least 21 to get an FFL of any type, including an 03FFL.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Redking - You might try calling BATF and see if you can send in the application 1 month before your birthday. That way you might have your license on your birthday.
                  Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

When I had my 03, as far as the Chief Law Enforcement Officer part, the agency didn't know what to do with their copy when I delivered it. Its probably went into someones round file.

I doubt they'll let you do that. My turn around was only three weeks.

I mailed the copy to my CLEO with a letter that pretty much said, "I'm required to send this to you and it requires no action on your part. Feel free to throw this away."

sending it in via the mail seems to be the better way to do it, less chance of having to explain to the clerk why you are trying to drop off the app.

I keep expecting a call from my CLEO's office to ask "what the heck is this thing you sent us?" So far all is quiet and no cops sitting in front of my house LOL.

But to the OP keep that thing ready to send off once you turn 21! I sent my application on the 27th of last month and they already billed my account on the 2nd (I sent it snail mail non overnight). So far seems like it will be a pretty quick process.

they leave it open for you to fill in so that they can raise the price later and not have to pay anyone to re-work the application.. saves them money and keeps idiots away

that doesn't make sense. They'd already have to re-work the application to update the instructions telling you how much the fee is.
