I dont know where the 1000 yard accuracy with iron sights claim comes from but unless your a top level wind reader and competitor with perfect eyesight its more of a high accuracy level rifle for the 200-500 meter shooting for a good mid level shooter with great eyes and wind doping hold over ability.

Basically it a precision made accurate rifle especially with handloads, better with upgraded diopter sights or a scope (offset to right) especially if mounted over the bore.

Use 284 brass and never look back, your limited to 150-175 (180 if throat is worn) grain .308" bullets.

Grind that godforsaken bolt stop magazine follower to overide and be agressive on closing and ejecting brass for best reliability.

Screw tension on action screws is critical to consistant accuracy.

A fine weapon.

With a 1,000 yard Diopter you might be surprised. With the right scope you'll do it. The ballistics are there and the rifle is capable.
Aggressive with the bolt? Better read this one.

These two points on the lug, A&B are not inherently weak, but are the common place for the Op-Rod to fail if its going to with repeated undue harsh use. Keep in mind the age of these rifles.

We typically weld the LHO bridge to original Op-Rods, so we have intimate knowledge of the steel and its limits.

We have Swiss Rifles here in the armoury, and I mean we have a lot of them, all kinds. When in correct mechanical condition not one of them requires undue force to cycle. Extraction is crisp and smooth, and running a correctly profiled cartridge into battery is smooth, effortless and a few at most requiring a solid push for the last 1/16" of bolt travel.

If your bolt is clean and your cartridges properly sized, seat depth correct for the rifle you'll have no problem running a cartridge smoothly into battery. If you have to slap them in or out, you have a problem and one most likely easily solved.

Rapping on the bolt handle with anything at all to remove a stuck case is a sure way to stress that op-rod and lug. Never, ever use a mallet or anything else on a k31 bolt handle.
So how do you remove a stuck case in a Swiss Rifle?

Try this:
You need to apply strong rearward inertia to the entire bolt, not just the handle.

Take the rifle in your left hand, holding it by the mid-foregrip. Place the edge your right hand (like a karate chop) against the bolt handle or you can grip it firmly with your fingers (not quite as effective with that type of bolt), or you can use a small block of wood in your hand to put downward pressure on the bolthandle. Raise the rifle about 18" off the ground and bring it down quickly, rapping the buttstock sharply against the ground while putting hard downpressure against the bolt with your right hand. Do it more than once if you need to, but I can tell you that its worked very time for me for as long as I've been reloading no matter what the rifle. If its a turn bolt action, rotate the bolt handle up and do the procedure. The AR10 is done the same way but just grip the bolt handle like you're extracting a cartridge and pull down hard while striking the butt on the ground.
Don't do this on concrete for obvious reasons.

I had no idea how much GP11 was around. In this case being in California its not scarcity of GP11 but being able to find places to shoot it that do not require a long drive into the desert in a 4wd vehicle. The owner of the range where I shoot told me the last guy who shot mil surplus ammo and started a fire ( California is dry...the grass is dry) at the range ended up with a bill from the fire department for over 80k. Just not worth the risk.

What is more frustrating is that Nosler or the like is now making lead free ammo for 6.5 x55, 8 mm, and 30-06 but not 7.5. So 7.5 is being classed as an odd ball round which is not good.

I don't see what difference irons or optics make here. Sure. Optics can allow one to shoot a little more precisely but, when it comes to shooting 1000 yards, reading conditions and having extemely consistant ammo makes all the difference in the world. The type of sighting device that one uses is a distant third.

I still haven't had a chance to shoot mine, but the craftsmanship on these rifles is amazing. Mine is a 1941 build- stock is roughed up but bore and rifling are still in very nice condition. Add on to it a Razorback bayonet (mine was produced in 1916, best graduation gift) and you will have a very unique and reliable rifle. J&G Sales has great prices for GP11. I'd say pick one up if you can!

You used the correct wording when asking if you should "pull the trigger" on one. The factory triggers on these rifles are some of the finest I've seen on a milsurp.

Lots of guns have their detractors. Nobody ever has a bad thing to say about the K31. About the only thing you hear is the ammo is expensive or scarce. But that is made up for by match quality surplus.

I got this from Allan's Armory last year. Got the bayonet from AIM surplus and got the Swiss Products scope mount and Sightron scope from Grafs & Son.
I have the most fun shooting this rifle. If I knew about the K31 before I assembled my AR15, I would probably would not have an AR15 right now.

I bought mine from a guy here on CalGuns. Mine doesn't have a bayonet, but it is an excellent rifle.

It is probably one of the most accurate rifles I have and one of the easist to shoot well. Not the most ergonomically comfortable for this lefty, but the first time I took it out, I was amazed at how easy it was to shoot very accurately with the Swiss, surplus ammo I bought.

Like most, my wood is a bit rough in spots, especially around the end of the butt stock, but the metal is in excellent condition with nearly all the original bluing. The owner obviously kept good care of it and the bore is very bright and shiny.

Very fun gun and I recommend them highly!!!
