my yugo shoots very well and I couldnt be happier with it. yes it doesnt have a chrome lined barrel but just take some extra time in picking one and you'll be fine. sure the weight is heavier than the russian, chinese, or any other sks BUT it had to be made sturdier for the reason the previous posters mentioned but also to withstand multiple pirings of grenaides from it. that's why i like mine, because it is beefy and built to take a beating.

I don't quite understand the statements claiming Yugos are "beefier". Where is this data compiled from? I've got a few SKSs and had a combersom unbalanced Yugo for a short time. If I'm not mistaken, most all of the few moving parts that are in an SKS are interchangable. The Yugos main weak link, besides weight and poor balance, is the gas tube selector valve. It can wear and leak enough to cause cycle issues. Although relativly easy to remedy if you're the fix-it type, it's just more moving parts you don't need. You can replace the gas tube or cut off the welded over launcher, but what's the point of that. Why not start out with one made that way from the factory? The best SKS is one you can afford. PAX

          Q: Which SKS is better?
A: The one that shoots the best.

I only have a very limited experience with my Chinese Paratrooper, but so far, I am so incredibly impressed with it for being a milsurp rifle.

"reliable, sturdy, and long lasting." ... Pretty much describes any SKS. my 2 cents.. go with the chinese unless you can find a cheap Romanian

I think the gas valve issue is when, not if. I sold my Yugos, and am left with a very nice Chinese.

My 59/66 had no problems. Remove the crap that is not needed (bayonet and grenade sight) and install a Murray's pin. Very accurate and reliable. I would keep it if not for that boating accident.

I've got a 59/66, and I have almost no complaints. I've not had any problems with it and find it to be quite accurate just as it is. My only real complaint is the cover that has been placed over the rifle grenade launcher, it is nothing more than a rust collector.

I have a Russian. I've handled several Chinese and Yugos. Yup, I'm going to stick with the Russian.

if you can't get a russian, shoot for romanian, albanian, then chinese. i'm wary of the Yugos, although that's 6 of one, half dozen of the other. some folks never have problems with them, others have nothing but, go figure. i like my russians but i understand how pricey they are these days. best value is a Romanian i'd say.
