Shootability, abundant of spare parts, WWII American engineering/manufacturing and plain Americana my vote is for the iconic M1 Garand. If you are looking for something to "wow" the crowd at the range with lots of "bling" affect then yes SVT.

Do not take it out at a MilSurp match against M1s, 1903s, 1917s etc because I am certain it will not fare well. JMHO.

Get one of the beautiful service grade Garand's while you can, these recent Greek ones are all in great condition, and make wonderful shooters. Sure, it's a bit more expensive to feed, but I love mine.

I'd like an SVT for historical value, but I doubt I'd really shoot it much... spare parts can be a royal pain.

most surplus 54r = not as accurate so so quality corrosive sometimes steel cased ammo

and if you collect your 30-06 brass and sell it to someone who reloads, the cost differential shouldn't be that far off. i don't think i've ever seen anyone bother to pick up 54r casings.

i know there is high quality 54r ammo out there, but have you seen what the going prices are right now for 7N1 or commercial rounds?

anyone notice i bias in favor of the garand? it's actually my favorite rifle, and i've got quite a few. here is a picture of one of mine, along side of a couple of its gun safe neighbors.

        Nice set

Nope no import mark either. I thought it was a Finn myself when I bought it. No refurb marks either. All stamped matching except the bolt is EP.

I'd trade one of my garands for an svt.
