Thanks Dave for clearing up the fact that my 1897 was actually 2 years older than I though. Proud owner of a 1915 Winchester 1897. We need to keep this thread as a sticky or something.

163rd rifle made in 1880, safe bet to say, in Jan of 1880, with 23475 made that year.

S/N 20217B made in 1876, with 11,826 made that year.
Interesting note, in the following year, only 477 were produced.
The stock was made in 1890.
Where on the stock is the serial number, and how was it applied?

Unfortunately, your Model 1911 was one model that was serialized, and no reliable records have been found as of yet.
All I have on it is, they were made between 1911 and 1925, with a total of 82,744 made.
My best WAG would be 1913-14

Model 1876 serial #1738X made in 1881, 8506 made that year.
I should be bartering this info for vintage Winchester gun pron pics, but I'd just end up drooling all over my keyboard.
psssniper, what cal and do you shoot it?

45-60 and it came with 200 rounds of Ten-X ammo and a set of RCBS dies. I bought it two years ago and no I have never fired it. It was professionally restored at some point in it's life and looks absolutely pristine although I would rather have had it in it's original condition, but hey when it popped up at a great price I snagged it. Firing some rounds thru this rifle is on my summer "to do" list for sure.

                              A 6 pack "and" a keyboard cleaning!
That's in pretty good shape, I hope it gets "fed" on a regular basis. That serial under the buttplate, does it look like it was stamped? And are the numbers the same font and size as the ones on the tang?

psssniper, TWO YEARS!? Once you do shoot it, you'll never let it go that long again.
Cast boolits and Trail Boss powder, the 40/60 is a pleasure to shoot.
