    How is their pricing? Also how does the membership generally go? Do I just pay up or do I have to spend time with it (I don't have a lot of that right now...)
    It's all spelled out right here:

    If you join CRPA it qualifies for the club membership (and puts more money towards the gun lobby in California):

    Support Your Second Amendment Rights. The California Rifle & Pistol Association, founded in 1875, provides training in the safe, responsible, and enjoyable use of firearms; sanctions competitive shooting state championships; and fights for the constitutional right to keep and bear arms for those who choose to own a gun in California for sport, hunting, or self-defense.

    I'm ex-Navy so all I had to mail in was a copy of my DD214, a copy of my CRPA card, a copy of my passport, and my forms. QED.
    I've never seen an American flag burned at a gun show.

      I'd recommend against joining CPRA for a host of reasons that have been described elsewhere on this board. The Garand Collector's association works as an excellent replacement.

          So what will these sell for?

          Also anyone know a good gun eligible club in Norcal-Eastbay that won't cost allot or be really time consuming where I have to do range litter pickup for 6 months to join?

          ===========

          Oh, for those that thought CMP meant

          C = Civilian
          M = Military
          P = Program....

          Well you are full of it. Of course when government announced this that is the name they used to justify getting more people involved in shooting sports for SHTF moments of invasion having a civilian pool of sharp shooters or at least folks that are not gun shy and won't shoot themselves.

          Like every government program this has transmorphed due to money and profit. CMP now means something totally different. One gun per person makes no money for those that abuse the system by buying 12 or 20 firearms and get to move up on the list because of their large purchase. Then there are those running the program that are typical employees looking for the easy out and selling 20 or 50 in one sell is allot less work than 50 separate sells, allot more paperwork and less time for 2 hour lunches, flirting with the secretary, and spending all afternoon on the internet. Doing 50 separate sales means maybe working a full 6 hours out of an 8 hour day instead of working smart by getting all 50 sales in one swoop and being done in say 30 minutes then kicking it for the rest of the day. Then there are the high volume folks that take them out for lunch, go on golf junkets, etc who get the pick of the litter.

          For those that don't know CMP means.

          C= CAPITALIST
          M = MARKETING
          P = PROGRAM, or PROFIT but I say PROGRAM (for) PROFIT.

            i agree the it is disgusting that the CMP allows more than one or at most two rifles to be sold to the same person.

            limit should be 2 per year.

              I don't quite follow.

              You want to join an 'easy' club to qualify for CMP, yet you're not happy that CMP policies might favor purchasers who spell for less trouble/effort for the program?

              The CMP is not the DCM. The DCM was a real government organization, and IIRC it took a really, really long time for folks to get that 1 Garand.

              So the CMP makes a few dollars. Where's the harm in that? Would you rather it be a real government organization that eats taxpayer dollars?

              Perhaps you should send the CMP a message by putting your money where your mouth is and buying one of those Century/Springfield Geneseo Garands?

                  That is the point of the CMP's rifle sales program. Their only revenue stream is the rifle/ammo sales. They have to sell stuff to pay for operating expenses. They don't get $$$ from .gov anymore, just obsolete rifles and ammo. The idea is to sell the inventory and put the profits into an endowment. Then, when the inventory runs out, the CMP can hopefully run its marksmanship programs off the endowment's interest.

                  They are trying to move the inventory out the door as fast as possible, since the supply could dry up overnight due to future anti-gun legislation.

                    I agree with this. The next President could pull the plug on the whole thing with a penstroke, and all those rifles would be destroyed. I understand they're just trying to get the rifles out before they're lost to us forever.

                      I don't think the people here have a problem with the CMP making a few dollars, since their profits help further shooting programs. The folks here, like me, have a problem with the "collectors" and speculators who buy up all the M1's they can get their hands on and then resell them for a markup, drying up supply and denying others the chance to buy a Garand they will personally shoot.

                        Yeah, I ran into someone at the range the other day who bragged about having a dozen Garands, half of which came from the CMP. He also talked about wanting to order a bunch of carbines too.

                        I've never thought of the CMP as being any sort of for-profit venture either.

                                Orest, the CMP operator guy, posted this a little while ago:

                                announcement going out Friday evening.

                                So we have to wait a few more days. My credit card will be smoking soon, I think....
