Vast preponderance of threads in the C&R section are about Mosin rifles...91/30s, M44s, M38s. What's so great about them?

I know they're cheap, fire a healthy round, inexpensive, and they're cheap ...but what else do they have going for them? They're ugly as a baboon in heat, magazine capacity is only 5, they're long enough to be halfway downrange (well, the 91/30 at least), and quality-of-build is such that Century Arms improves things when they assemble them.

I can see the M44...that's kinda cool. Short lil carbine style.

OK...convince me to get one. At least a carbine. Just 'cause I like guns.

I don't deny the charges, but I will say I don't think it's any worse than a lot of the guys who dress up like they stepped right out of Call of Duty when they shoot their tacticoolized AR-15 ultimate weapon.

I feel you, brother. The Garand, Lee-Enfield (especially the Mk.1), 1903A3, and Kar98 are all attractive guns. Moisin-Nagant...if she wasn't cheap, nobody would take her to the prom.

If you cannot appreciate a firearm for what it is, you cannot be convinced to like it.

The MN is a design that has withstood the test of time, political climate aside, long enough to be proof enough.

Any firearm platform will have good and bad examples, the MN just has the distinction of being produced largely under pressure so quality will suffer due to this.

I have some great shooting examples that look like a donkey, but they are dependable. I also have some beauties that shoot for sh*t, go figure.

If you need convincing, stay with the high dollar collectibles, you will find that crowd far more forgiving. (they have to be, they paid a lot of money just like you did to be in the club,,,)

The m91/30 is a solid and dependable design that will give you good performance out to 500+ meters if you are a decent shot. If you are a great shot you can put lead on targets well beyond that.

The shorter varients are a compromise to meet a specific need, they are not the most desireable rifle beyond 300 meters, but then again they were not designed to be. That said, they are a lot of fun, they can also clear out your sinuses while shooting them.
