    Sacrilege! I don't own a Mosin rifle!

Vast preponderance of threads in the C&R section are about Mosin rifles...91/30s, M44s, M38s. What's so great about them?

I know they're cheap, fire a healthy round, inexpensive, and they're cheap ...but what else do they have going for them? They're ugly as a baboon in heat, magazine capacity is only 5, they're long enough to be halfway downrange (well, the 91/30 at least), and quality-of-build is such that Century Arms improves things when they assemble them.

I can see the M44...that's kinda cool. Short lil carbine style.

OK...convince me to get one. At least a carbine. Just 'cause I like guns.

They are cool because you are holding and shooting a piece of history. That's the main reason I collect WWII firearms, it's a tangible reminder of that era. There are several period weapons that fall short of the "classic beauty" title...don't care, I want them all anyway.
sigpicCertainly there is no hunting like the hunting of man and those who have hunted armed men long enough and liked it, never really care for anything else thereafter.

      Hey Man,

It's just something you have to experience...

You gave all the good reasons.

      Got mine.

Century doesn't assemble them and the quality is equal to any other rifle of the era.
Maybe you would be happier with a pellet gun.

Pellet gun? Nawww...unless it's one of the 9mm or 45 caliber PCPs. Now, those things thump! The facetious Century reference was only in regard to build quality, not an implication that they actually do the building or assembling.

History...that's probably the biggest driver. Love my #5 jungle carbine, although it didn't "serve" (1947). Based on the history alone I'll probably pick one up. Just a matter of finding an M44 that doesn't have the graffitti import marks on them.

if you're a fan of historical battle rifles, making thunder, bayonets you can pole vault with, and bruises on your shoulder that last a week, get one.

if not, well, there are always .22s

I'm no hardcore C&R owner, but I worry about what someone with this attitude would do with a M.N.
Really, if you cant appreciate a firearm like that for what it is then don't waist your time/money on it.

It's a magnificent piece of history. Nothing like holding a rifle that was in all probability issued in WWII. Granted, I love my CMP Garand far far more... but if you don't appreciate the history, don't worry about it, go get some modern gun.

That's how I feel about my 1915 M91. Something that was around for (if not participated in) The Great War, the Bolshevik revolution, and WW2.

As I tighten the sling wrapped around my arm I breath slowly. I think of my younger brother. Laughing as we raced across the wheat fields. Flipping the leaf up, I adjust the sight to the range of the enemy, slowly coursing across the hills. I think about the time I met Nami for the first time. It was at school when she dropped her books. The ground shakes as it gets pepped with holes as artillery falls. I brush the soil from my face. The ground is still shaking. They're coming in tanks now. I think of my final order... Tenno heika...

This is when I take my hat off because I feel ridiculous.
