    Re: Modified Mosin

I ruined the stock on my 1939 Tula M91/30 by accident so bplvr refinished the stock for me. He did an upstanding job on it. I will post some more photos of the colorings and stuff when I get the chance.

Did you drill and tap yourself or a gunsmith?

                I am Bubba.

I got an m91 barreled receiver whose barrel had been cut. So I went ahead and finished the job to make a 91/38. Here's a pic, and at the end, there's the link to the post where I show everything I did.

If I were not Bubba, that barreled receiver would still be leaning against a wall somewhere. This weekend I'm going to put on a scout scope to see what's what.

link to post wherein interesting markings are shown:

                  Excellent job CDFingers!

Thats the kind of Bubbafication I like to see with rifles. Taking a trashed bunch of parts and turning them back into a clean functional rifle.

I do reload with .308 bullets for my M39, but some of them have tighter barrels than others. I can shoot 5 rounds into an inch or less at 50 yards just about every time, and I dont have the best eyesight

The hardest thing to find was the rear ladder sight. But I'm getting old, and I now wear glasses. Iron sights present a challenge--this is the reason for the scout mount experiment this weekend (unless the Honey-do list interferes...)

I reload also, and I've worked up a cast load for this rifle. Here is the group of 4 that showed me I'd found a good cast load; before I tapped the front site over to make it on center, this is 50 yards with a 185 gr gas checked cast boolit under 13.4 gr Unique, with pillow stuffing as packing:

no both of mine are unmarked barrels other than serial number, the one for sale has a sako gear on the side of the rear sight and IIRC has AV1 markings in the stock under the receiver.

My other one is a 1904 reciever, it has what looks like the russian/imperial crest over nk but no other distinguishing markings.

Thankfully they both slugged out at .308 so I have no problem reloading .308 bullets in em, I actually have used .308 bullets with a few of my russian mosins as well with good accuracy.

I tried that scope mount first because I did not want to drill, but it didn't hold for ****. I had to constantly secure it.
