I haven't been through an inspection (yet) but I know several people who have, both at their homes and at the ATF office.

In each case the requirement was to check each C&R gun against the bound book record and make sure it was recorded correctly. At no time did they inspect the "collection" or ask to look at anythng else. The only thing inspected were the C&R firearms presented and the bound book.

Damn! I emailed my request for the forms on 5/8 and received the packet today 5/11. Three days is a hell of alot quicker then I was expecting.

Question: 0n the form, question 10 (c) asks: "Are you in possession of a valid hunting license or permit lawfully issued in the United States?" Which I do not have. It then states " If you answered NO, you likely cannot lawfully possess a firearm and therefore cannot be a federal firearms licensee"

When following the directions from the link on surplusfirearms, The write up says to just fill in your name on line 10 (a) and then, if you're a US citizen, skip steps 10 (b) & (c).

Anyone recall if they skipped step 10, altogether? The way I read it, it looks like we should just skip the whole step and not fill in our names or anything. If this is so, how should I handle it? Scratch out my name and initial it? or just leave my name and skip steps (b) & (c)?

      Thanks, Ron

you know, the same thing tripped me up too! I ended up calling the local ATF office, getting bounced around from number to number, and finally getting an answer!

........now if i could only REMEMBER what that answer was...

          You're killin' me Chief!

Hopefully someone out there made a copy of the original before mailing it off, and can shed some light.

Item 10 is for Nonimmigrant Aliens only, I think.

I skipped the whole section. I probably did the right thing, I received a license.

                Certificate of Eligibility...

It's issued by the DOJ and is required of people who work in gun stores. It relates to a C&R holder as follows...

Allows someone with a C&R to cash and carry (no wait) and C&R firearm which is in a CA dealer's inventory. This includes C&R handguns and C&Rs that are less than 50 years of age. You're still required to fill out a DROS, pay the fee, and deal with the lock requirement. These exemptions are only when buying from a CA dealer...not when ordering from out of state or buying from a private party. Those transactions are still limited to long guns greater than 50 years of age.

In order to get one you go and get finerprinted at a local LiveScan station and pay a total of close to $100 in fees. Then each subsequent year you pay $22 in renewal fees.

So is it worth it? Depends on the convenience factor for you. And one caveat, not all CA dealers are aware of this exemption and not all will honor it.

Also, with the C&R + COE combo meal, you are no longer restricted by the 1 handgun per 30 days rule. This applies to C&R handguns *AND* modern handguns

When I receive my c&r, do I need to enter any firearms that I currently own, into the log book, or do I only enter arms I purchase with my c&r?

You only enter the acquisition and disposition of C&R rifles from when you have your license until you stop renewing your license.

What is the correct application for license date at the bottom of the form?

Just as expected, I received the call from the local police department tonight. At first they had no idea what they were supposed to do with the application. Then it took me three times of explaining that the new application package from BATFE includes a set of originals for each ATF and Chief of Police. He was worried that since he had the forms with original signature, that I messed up and sent him an original and ATF got a photo copy. After about 10 minutes he basically said " OK " and that was it.

                            California C & R requirements

I'm sure this question has been asked but I have not found it yet so here goes. If I get a C & R license I understand that long guns can be shiped to my door, do I have to report each transfer to the State as a regular FFL holder does? Or are C & R folks exempt from this?
                            Thanks

You can have them shipped to your door and you only enter them in your Bound Book.

                              Start by reading the sticky:

Then read the C&R forum for about a week.

                              Then head over to surplusrifle:

                                YES

Even tho you can't buy C&R handguns with it, it is definitely worth it:
