    Ever wondered why the soviet oil bottle has two chambers? One chamber is for oil (that's the "H" side), and the other side is for "caustic" or sodium hydroxide in oil. The lye was to neutralize the salts which were nitric acid left over from fulminate primers.

    That's what the Soviets did.
