Did you get any dimpling on the bullet? Does the firing ping move at all?
I am not an expert but that's what I would look at first.

Love the Cobra by the way. 03 or 04? Is that your daily driver?

I took off my comment cuz I was duplicating something someone else had posted.

After reading the comments, I thought you should take apart the bolt to see why the firing pin was not working. I posted the link that Trapp55 had already posted at 18, but I didn't notice it until I read all the comments again.

      Sorry

No dimpling, the firing pin DOES move, i can take the bolt back and manually pull the hammer(or whatever its called) back and let it fly forward.
My thought is that the firing in is too short and its not striking, or that its worn down from 3,000,000 dry fires... who knows. I tried putting a piece of scotch tape over the firing pin, on the bolt to see if it gets penetrated... but thats not a surefire test cause im sure theres some flex.

what im really concerned about is that this thing might be one of the ones they rechambered for 308 and im trying to fire 7mm mauser out of it. I really need it to be looked at by a pro at this point. I nutted up and tried firing it as is (with a welding jacket on top of the receiver between it and my face no less) and this is what i get.

The Cobra is an '03.. im the original owner... looks stock huh less than 27k on it, its my weekend car. btw satin wheels came with the 03, 04 they switched to chrome, its an easy way to tell the difference, thats the only one... just fyi

no prob bro.. I actually cant figure out how to take the bolt apart... my attention span is too short for this rifle (hence the 1yr mark between posts)
Do you know how to take it apart? If its simple ill just aquire another firing pin and swap it out.

Anyone know a good guy to take this thing to? This isnt something i want to mess with, im still only 60% sure im even trying the correct ammo.

also, anyone know what this thing would be worth if it was functional? I can forsee a FS thread in my future.
Did you take the bolt apart? Even if you haven't, did you make sure the bolt sleeve/Shroud is screwed all the way back into the bolt body? It's a common mistake.

If it was rechambered for .308 you wouldn't be able to close the bolt. 7mm is a lot longer cartridge.

It's really easy and no tools are needed. Instructions with pics here: http://www.surplusrifle.com/mauser93...mbly/index.asp

I think its definately, without a doubt a Disney Munchauser...

One of the prop rifles Disney had made for the Munchkin Army for the movie "The Wizard of Oz"... This particular model, the Military Carbine model 1939-L, is especially rare and valuable. The vast majority of the Disney Munchausers were manufactured in 1939 at the Disney DreamWorks, fabrication machine shops, as was this one, however, most of the original Munchausers were serialized with an "M" Designator, not an "L" Designator, the "M" represented its role as the arm for the Munchkin Army, the "L", for those guns that were to serve a double purpose in TWO Disney productions of that year, both, the Wizard of Oz, and, serving DOUBLE DUTY as the arm used by the Liliputian Army in the Disney 1939 production of "Gullivers Travels". Both versions are exceedingly rare finds. Only three hundred million are known to exist, well, actually, only 40 were actuallly made by Disney Studios, the rest are known and identified fakes, bringing it's market value in at around $1.27 to a high of $2.34 for the model 1939-M, and a slightly higher value for the model 1939-L, comming in at around $3.05 to $5.62. I would value yours, with it's pristine stock, at around $4.87, a valuable find, Congratulations !!!

Can't be absolutely positive however, but I'm pretty sure its one of the rare originals !!!

                        Sincerely,
