    Browning SA 22

I picked up a Belgian made pre-1968 Browning SA 22 - wheel type rear sight. Gun came with a very much oversized Leupold M8 4x scope, which now sits on a Ruger 77/44. The Browning was missing its front sight but I figured "how hard can it be to replace a dovetail front sight?" .......

All the dovetail type front sights I had at home didn't fit (too small dovetail) and the one I ordered from Numrich (only one they had listed) also too small. Dovetail bottom cut measures .410. So I'm guessing that at some point Browning went from their own special sized to standard.

The dovetail cut is far too much larger than the sight to do a little stippling on the base or tapping down of the top of the dovetail cuts. No way to finesse fit.

Any suggestions on where to find?

I highly recommend you keep it all original, plain blade front sight. Later years had a bead on the blade

Try https://artsgunshop.com/ or Midwest gun works

      These may work.
Check out the deal on Browning .22 Autoloading Takedown Rifle, Front Sight at MGW

The proper way to measure the female dovetail is place two pins in the dovetail and measure the space between the pins. I have a trig chart for .0625 pins and also must know the angle of the dovetail. MOST of the sight dovetails in the gun world are 60 or 65 degrees. If you can post the dimension (G) I can tell you the size of your dovetail.

.0490 pins are used for male dovetails.

        Hi Ken -

Best I can do for measuring is that the female is .410 at base, .330 at top and .110 deep. The side cuts on the female mate with the front sight I bought so I'd expect 60 or 65 applies. The male of the front sight is just way to small.

The MDW front sight is the same one I bought from Numrich, typical 3/8" type that firs new but not old. I have a Miroku made SA 22 and it's the same one.

There are a couple of muzzleloader websites that have a huge variety of dovetail sights. I will try to remember which one I last used.

My high school math teacher loved duck hunting. Were it not for a blind on the Merrimack River I'd have never been graduated.

Once you get that Belgium SA-22 up and running, you're gonna love it! I also have a 60s vintage "Wheelsight" Browning I've been shooting for probably 25-30 years now---one caution through---female shooters my find that the downward ejection of HOT fired brass lands them inside their shirt (!)---this will not go over well---ask me how I know...!

I have a habit of hanging my mouth open while shooting. Off sandbags an empty case hit just right and bounced into my mouth. Damn that hurt.
