When Trump told the world the Wuhan virus originated from Chy-na, the socialists in Germany were frothing from their mouths. News reporters and comments were raging about "Trump's lie". The mindless minions tried to claim Covid originated from Fort Detrick, all the while virus shooting star and superquack Dr. Fraudci opined, recommended and contradicted himself on a daily basis about how to deal with Covid.

Fast forward 15 months, the world now knows the virus did in fact originate from Wuhan and was first spotted near the Wuhan lab, Dr. Fauxci is now serving under socialist rule and slowly his dealings with China and Wuhan are being uncovered. Not being able to deny the Wuhan origin anymore and not getting any traction with their Fort Detrick conspiracy theory, Germany's left now froths over Rand Paul's audacity to question their Superhero Fauxci about his role in the deadly Wuhan research activities. In their little world, anybody questioning Dr. Fraudci is a member of the "Trump cult". And since DemokRats are in bed with Media and Fraudci, the only people asking critical questions must therefore be Trumptards. This is how simple a socialist's brain is structured.

Or, in the words of Alfred Teztlaff, an Archie Bunker type German actor and comedian: "The socialist is generally not stupid, he just has a hard time thinking rationally."

When I was in Deutschland working for the US Army... as stated in my previous post, I could bring my handgun with me and kept it loaded in my German apartment because of the SOFA agreement. No German citizen could do that. SOFA basically were rules forced on Germany since we were basically the Besatzungsmacht (occupation forces). As an American civilian employee of the DOD USA, I had American rights.
All Germans have to anmelden (register with gov't) when they move to a new address. I received a letter from their gov't telling me I have to register because I was living in a German owned apartment, and not in the US Army's community. Otherwise, face arrest. I went to the registrar's office , SOFA agreement in hand, and told the clerk I do not have to register myself as an American civilian working for our army. The young clerk was pissed and said "you think you're better than the other residents?" I said take the SOFA letter to your supervisor.. He did and the much older supervisor came and told me I'm right and can go. I was so tempted to tell that clerk "weil Wir sind die Besatzungsmacht!" . Because we are your occupation force.
Wish now I had bought that PPK at the Nellingen Barracks Rod and Gun Club.

                        anyway.

today i went shooting at a german gun range!

There were lots of things to remark upon. Of course, many differences, but many similarities too. And since i hadnt shot a k98 since i sold mine 5 years ago, it was a lot of fun; it was for me at least as much fun to CLEAN the rifle as it was to shoot it.

I shot a 1943 k98, all in the white, with a sight hood. it was a very good k98, would expect it would feth 1k on the market in the uS at this point, but i confess i'm out of the loop as ive been away for 4 years now

the range itself was smaller, tidier; fewer lanes, fewer people. but the people who were there were into it.

The main differences i could see:

                        1. Its not hard to "shoot" in germany. you join a gun club, they rent you pretty much whatever. I wanted to shoot a k98, i got it.

                        2. Range was smaller. in every way.

                        3. the beer here was better. just was. sorry.

Think past your gun, it's the last resort, the first is your brain.

We will be subjected to registration very soon, especially if David Chipman gets to sit in the enforcer office. We will be "subjects of the politburo" not citizens anymore. It is a reality never imagined in my lifetime. My WWII vet grandfather will be heartbroken if he is still alive.

correct. the occupational forces of all the foreign powers imposed their own systems and unless you committed murder or whatever you tended to be governed by your own power's jurisdictions.

also correct. the germans do this sort of like how we are supposed to report to the DMV when we move.

thats actually a cool story and wouldnt surprise me that the dumbass clerk wouldnt know that rule for US personnel. Where were you stationed, where was that? The bigger base towns, like Wiesbaden or Kaiserslautern (where Ramstein is) would probably know this, and i'm sure other towns did back in the day where there were large bases. But maybe where you were didnt have a lot of US dudes any more?

                              Was this ... kinda recently?

Yes, here in DE you have to basically "sign in at city hall" when you move so they know where to forward your official correspondence, govt. mail, these sorts of things to. People love to freak out and say its all big brothery but its really just the same thing as the DMV or the IRS; just instead of anchoring your address to your drivers license, which has little value to German institutions as a form of ID, they anchor it to your "Identify card", since not everyone owns a car here.

                                a fair question.

honestly i meant it a lot more tongue in cheek than it came across as, evidently, given the torrent of abuse.

i meant it sorta playfully, "punch in the shoulder" kinda way but evidently people are ....touchier... .than i remember. The US i grew up in, you could have friends whose politics didnt align with yours 100% and it was ok as long as you had interests in common, but that era is over evidently.

anyway i regret saying it at this point just because its derailed the thread. ah well.
