Going to a Range in Germany: range report

    Hallo Zusammen,

Some of you might remember me, i was super active on here from 2008 till 2015, then sorta quieted down, then when i emigrated to germany in 2017 sorta stopped posting at all. But today, well, i have something to contribute to this forum besides trolling trumptards....

    anyway.

today i went shooting at a german gun range!

There were lots of things to remark upon. Of course, many differences, but many similarities too. And since i hadnt shot a k98 since i sold mine 5 years ago, it was a lot of fun; it was for me at least as much fun to CLEAN the rifle as it was to shoot it.

I shot a 1943 k98, all in the white, with a sight hood. it was a very good k98, would expect it would feth 1k on the market in the uS at this point, but i confess i'm out of the loop as ive been away for 4 years now

the range itself was smaller, tidier; fewer lanes, fewer people. but the people who were there were into it.

The main differences i could see:

    1. Its not hard to "shoot" in germany. you join a gun club, they rent you pretty much whatever. I wanted to shoot a k98, i got it.

    2. Range was smaller. in every way.

    3. the beer here was better. just was. sorry.

they had 2 safes worth of guns you could rent.

          swedish and german mausers, basically.

ended up being kind typical range prices; about a buck a round

When I was in the area army, stationed in Germany, we shot a few times with our German-partner unit: Shooting was fun, the party afterwards was better.

When I shot on ranges in Germany in the late 70s I was surprised how close everything was to the ranges. The outdoor ranges had baffles over them to trap rounds from lraving the range. Houses were pretty close to the downrange end. At a smallbore range a hiking path went behind and below the backstop. No one seemed to mind.
