    Anti-Tank Mauser

I was in a gun shop today and the owner was showing us his Mauser-built, T-Abwehr Gewehr 1918 rifle. It is basically a mauser action rifle on steroids which fired a 795gr 13.2mm bullet at 2650ft/sec, weighs 42lbs, and stands 66.6" tall, and was used as a tank killer in late WWI.

It was an amazing and rare sight. It must of hurt to fire one of these beasts.

Holy crap thats awesome. Seems like an early 50 bmg kinda round. Those early tanks had thin skin.

Apparently, it was capable of punching a hole through 15mm of armor at 300yds.

A true beast. I do not think the rifle weighed that much however... though I am not sure of the exact weight. Loaded with the bi-pod it did however weigh 41lb. I believe one man carried the bipod and ammo, while the next carried the rifle. Someone else I am sure will know where to find the weight of just the rifle. But still, I would loooove to operate a wooden stock shooting cannon that is about all tall as me.

The 13mm T-Patrone is essentially a greatly-enlarged version of the 8mm Mauser cartridge, using the same bullet shape but in 13x92mm steel-cored AP round.

I didn't ask but I don't think it was for sale, part of the owner's collection. He said it was found walled up in a house wall and forgotten about for decades, until someone bought the house and decided to renovate it, and started tearing down a couple of walls and found it sandwiched between two interior walls.

I've seen just the stripped receivers for sale for $2000.

Now THAT is an original story, lol! That's about as unique as those bridge maintenance workers finding the WW2 weapons under a bridge awhile back...
