Default What's the general ball park for this ammo?

Hey guys,

I've been looking up a few fire arms to purchase and it's coming down to a cost issue. Will anyone be able to give a ball park for these calibers, lets say, from wal mart?

1.) .22lr
2.) .22wmr
3.) .17hmr
4.) 9mm
5.) .357 mag
6.) .44 mag
7.) .500 smith & wesson (probably gotta go to a gun store for this one)

Found some prices to compare to. Please let me know of any oddities.
If anyone knows of better prices from a web site, let me know and I'll change the price and provide the link.
So far all these are from http://www.outdoormarksman.com/index.php?cPath=65
I didn't check for shipping costs~

Here's a link for lazy man's ammo search. It checks many stores on the net for prices http://www.gun-deals.com/ammo.php

*tax not included

1.) .22lr ----------.03 Federal Value Pack
2.) .17hm2 -------.13 Hornady
3.) .22wmr -------.15 Win. Super-X

8.) .357 mag------.60 WWB------------.23 Factory Reloaded Ammo
9.) .45 ACP------.60 WWB-------------.25 Factory Reloaded Ammo ----------------------------------Updated 03/03/09
10.) 10mm--------.55 American Eagle---.25 Factory Reloaded Ammo
11.) .45 Colt------.90 Remington LRN---.37 Factory Reloaded Ammo LRNFP
12.) .44 mag------.81 WWB (JSP)------.33 Factory Reloaded Ammo TMJ
13.) .454 Casull---1.31 Winchester Supreme Platinum Tipped (Cheapest on Site from Winchester)

I don't know walmart prices, since I mailorder most of my ammo. The price depends on what you want to do w/ the ammo. Here're my prices (per 50 rnds):

.22LR = $1.20 plinking, $7.50 serious practice and match
9mm = $7 practice and match, $30 defensive

I don't shoot the other cartridges you've listed.

thanks for the heads up

I'm looking mostly to plink but depending on the caliber, but function just like above would be nice too.

By the way, where the heck do you find 9mm for .14 a pop now a days?

Thanks AR~

Yah, I was doing some looking of my own and always saw how others were able to get ammo cheaper then me. So I figure might as well make a post out there in case there's anyone else like me and horrible at prices.

Here is the price check on some ammo, general ball park. Most are Winchester White Box (WWB) unless otherwise labled and each is price per bullet and all are FMJ.

1.) .22lr ----------.03 Federal Value Pack
2.) .17hm2 -------.13 Hornady
3.) .22wmr -------.15 Win. Super-X
4.) .17hmr--------.21 Hornady
5.) 9mm----------.26 WWB------------.19 Factory Reloaded Ammo
6.) .40 S&W------.40 WWB------------.19 Factory Reloaded Ammo
7.) .38 Special----.42 WWB------------.19 Factory Reloaded Ammo
8.) .357 mag------.60 WWB------------.23 Factory Reloaded Ammo
9.) .45 Auto------.38 WWB-------------.25 Factory Reloaded Ammo
10.) 10mm--------.55 American Eagle---.25 Factory Reloaded Ammo
11.) .45 Colt------.90 Remington LRN---.37 Factory Reloaded Ammo LRNFP
12.) .44 mag------.81 WWB (JSP)------.33 Factory Reloaded Ammo TMJ

Outdoormarksman is the online division of Miwall, the big ammo supplier at all the gunshows.
They sell a LOT of ammo, so they generally have good prices.
Shipping is reasonable to CA as they ship from Oregon.
No sales tax as they ship from outside CA.

Now I'll give you a really good link though...

No, Blazer AL case.
Steel case wears on the extracter (which I don't mind too much), but I really hate the green stuff they leave on your fingers after loading them.

I buy in cases and that was the last purchase price. Winchester USA (white box) from Walmart is only $16 per 100 I think.

I think calling some FMJ ammo ball is a carryover from when ammo was actually a ball like in muskets.

Remigton actually made some .38spl loads with 2 000 buckshot pellets. I guess those are sort of ballish!

Neat, I've never heard of that. Learn something new everyday I guess. So how does it fire? Two shots from one shell? Maybe a spread effect?

Yes, it fires both balls at once when fired. Duplex loads have been tried here and there. It did not spread all that much when I fired it at targets 7-10 yards away.

Hey bud,

I'm not selling ammo, this is just a reference for people wondering how much ammo is going for. They are sent by other calgun members and myself from local stores like walmart or big 5. It's just a reference to use so when you decide to buy a gun and ammo cost is a factor, you have an idea of what your getting yourself into.
