Found a 1951 Tula SKS with all matching serial numbers of "HK1".
What gives? Google was no help...(to me at least).

I read that the letters signify the year and the number is a sequence. I was just wondering if this rifle could/would be the first one from that year.

The year is 1951 or 1951 Года (Goda).
НК1 means NK1 when Anglicized and that's really strange... I thought that there might have been some words on it. I would assume that НК1 is a very early model but I don't know for sure...
Something you could try would be to contact Tula Arsenal (http://www.tulatoz.ru/en) directly and ask about that particular SKS. I had luck with one my SVT-40 when I contacted them with some questions strangely enough."No posts of mine on Calguns are to be construed as

It's just the first rifle in the series. HK 1 HK 2 hk 3 ect. When they got to the end of the series they started over with something similar to : HL 1 ect.
The rifle in that auction was a arsenal refinish rifle. Which had a renumbered stock. Probably not really a good deal at that price.Poke'm with a stick!

The old serials will have a bunch of "XXXXX" over them and the new number is usually stamped under it. Some parts will still have the original serial on them and just have the refurb mark stamped nearby "Square with a / through it". Parts that have had the serial changed usually have a refurb mark on them too.

Sometimes the old S/N's will be ground off, and new numbers, either stamped or EP'd in their place.
The big clue to a refurb Soviet SKS is the finish. This is what Non refurbs looks like.
If it's not blued with a deep blue, and it doesn't have a bright bolt carrier and bayonet it's a refurb.
This one is unfired!!!
If it got a blue bayonet or bolt carrier it's a refurb. If it has a "krinkle" finish it's a refurb.

The one the OP posted about is a re-firb {see the square with a slash on the bolt cover} The stock is forced matched and the rest of the #'s look original matching. The metal has been re-done in Russian hotdip "blue".
