Stupid question: you write your checks out to the bureau of alcohol, tobacco, firearms, and explosives correct? I saw that the atf listed this in the instructions for obtaining an nfa item and such, but I didn't see it in the FFL instructions. Just want to be totally sure so that my application isn't sent back to me again. Thanks

Instructions #5:

5. Payment - You may pay the application fee by credit/debit card, check, or money order, payable to ATF (see instruction #14 on the following page for the address to send payment and completed application package). Do not send cash. Postdated checks are not acceptable. Licenses are issued for a period of three years. No refund of any part of a license fee shall be made where the operations of the license are, for any reason, discontinued during the period.

Make sure you sign on Page 1, 2 AND 4 (as the "Responsible Person").

ATF charged card on 10/31/2017
Just got my FFL03 in the mail yesterday, 1/10/2018.
I called the ATF yesterday before it arrived wondering what the status was, and they told me it had been put in the mail on 1/2

COE submitted online on 10/30.
COE approved 12/5/2017

I filled out the form. There is another form titled CLEO after the instruction section but it is not fillable inline. Do I send this to my CLEO hand written or can I send a copy of the ATF titled form?

If you fill out the PDF version from the website, it should auto-populate the CLEO copy which does not have the credit card fields. method of payment field.

This is the link I used but it did not populate the CLEO section. It will not let me click the information boxes and allow me to put in information.

Are you filling it out in your browser or downloading the form and using Adobe Acrobat/other PDF software?

I just checked, filling it in the browser doesn't populate the other copy. I have a full version of Acrobat, not reader, so maybe that is why it auto-populated?

Edit: Downloading it and completing the form with Acrobat Reader DC seems to work, I copied into my work remote desktop and that only has Acrobat Reader installed.

Wish I had known this before, I had to write everything in for the CLEO copy, not that I don’t like writing, it’s just my writing sucks. I checked with the Acrobat reader version (afterwards) and it auto-populated.

I was curious how long the BATFE takes to process FFL03 applications, so I truly appreciate that folks are posting the submission and approval dates.

Submitted 5 October 2017
Approved 10 October 2017

FFL03:
Submitted 2 January 2018
Check cleared 9 January 2018
Approved 14 March 2018.
Received 17 March 2018 (74 Days from submission)

I submitted my COE on 01/07/18. Approved on 01/16/18
FFL03 mailed on 01/05/18, Credit Card charged on 01/12/18.
I will updated when I receive the paperwork.

That still did not work for me. I am just sending them a photo copy of the ATF form
