I realize prices have gone up but DAAAMN!
"The only thing necessary for the triumph [of evil] is for good men to do nothing." Edmund Burke speech of 23 April 1770, "Thoughts on the Cause of the Present Discontents," delivered to the House of Commons.Tags: None -
Yeah...... umm... I'll pass. I used to have a 91/30, dont miss it at all. They are cool milsurp guns but you would have to pay me to take one. I'd just rather shoot my AR15 or M1 Garand. Who pays more than $100 for a run of the mill refurbed 91/30? People in blue states?CRPA and NRA member.
Note that those who have repeatedly expressed enough vile and incoherent content as to render your views irrelevant, have been placed on my ignore list. Thank you for helping me improve my experience and direct my attention towards those who are worthy of it. God bless your toxic little souls. -
These are apparently all original in VG condition, not refurbs. I trust JG to know what they are selling. It may not be worth the full $470, but I don't think these are run of the mill refurbs. The people who will pay $470 for these 91/30s probably know exactly what they are. If they sell them, they must be something to a 91/30 collector.Last edited by SkyHawk; 09-11-2018, 2:47 PM.Comment

I used to be able to hand pick them for yes, 69.00 each. We are talking double dates, triple dates, ex snipers, hex receivers, etc. Wow, just wow. I pretty much sold off all of them now, but I guess I should of held on to them! Really doubt they will sell many at that price.Comment

My thoughts as well..sold off my $69 91/30s long ago (at a nice profit)...I only wish I'd have hung on to my SVT40.Yeah...... umm... I'll pass. I used to have a 91/30, dont miss it at all. Their Mauser pricing is insane. Here's a few examples.
Russian Captured K98k, $959
Russian Captured K98k, $929
I don't know any Russian Captures worth almost $1000. Their Arisaka pricing is awfully high as well.Comment

I dont think I have ever seen a standard $100 run of the mill 91/30 with intact stock cartouches.Yeah...... umm... I'll pass. I used to have a 91/30, dont miss it at all. Didnt realize the ones at JG arent refurbs. I guess that means a lot to "collectors". Not to me though, its still just a Mosin. Heck I'd be more stoked about finding a gen1 or 2 Glock or W.German Sig. But apparently a lot of people get all frothed up over Mosins. More power to em. They only made 37 million of them.Last edited by Tere_Hanges; 09-11-2018, 5:19 PM.CRPA and NRA member.

I call it the "Classic" effect.
A lot of people who have jumped into the collector world in the last few years are obviously novices while being wealthy at the same time.
These people Google search for their guns, which takes them right to the retailers like Classic and J&G. They don't bother with hunting down deals on discussion boards.
This is how all of those faked up Mausers sold last year from Classic. There were alarms blaring on every discussion site, but the stupid things sold out in minutes anyway.

Half the fun of collecting Mil-surp guns was doing your own the research online to figure out what you got. Discussion sites usually have good information. I think it was more of a case of "fools are easily parted from their money."I call it the "Classic" effect.

I wholeheartedly believe that there are a good amount of people (primarily baby boomers, nothing against them) who are savvy enough to understand internet commerce, but not enough to utilize forums. I believe this because my parents fit into this category.I call it the "Classic" effect.

I also agree that there are a lot of new collectors who don't have any idea where to look for info on milsurps. I know, because I was one of them. I almost played into the hands of Mitchell's. Fortunately, Mitchell's has largely sold out of German K98ks and were only offering Yugos. I still see posts on facebook/forums asking about their newly acquired Mitchell's Mauser and info on it...
100%. If you have more dollars than sense, your money is long gone.Comment

J & G used to be a really straight up outfit.
I remember driving up to Prescott from Phoenix to handpick rifles.
They were so great to deal with, cheap prices and really knowledgeable people.
Now they have gone full " Classic Firearms" on us....Comment

That's what I thought too. Up to around 2010 whenever I wanted to buy a good American-made hand tool or cooking utensil or out-of-print book, I would look on ebay. The sellers regarded them as junk to be disposed of quickly and you could find many true bargains. Now everything is being sold as if it was a collectable. Today a buyer must compete against people with more money than sense (my brother is like that).I call it the "Classic" effect.
