Easy to tell: Is the oprod dismount notch mid-way in the track or at the end? Mid-way is an auto receiver and a no-go. Aft end and you are ok.

Imagine the confusion 30 years from now with the James River Armory M14's with welded heels from torch cut M14's.

They don't have the full auto oprod dismount notch. Easy way to tell. MKS kept the full auto dismount notch which got him in trouble and Federal jail time.

The M14s we shot in basic in 1969 had plugged selectors, but I assume the internals were still FA.

No it was an independent manufacturer, but it was made with GI surplus parts.....
