...the parts are still stolen goods and the property of the federal gov't, and destruction of federal property ( the receiver ) is also a crime.

Take it aprt destroy receiver and select fire parts. Find a legal receiver and re-assemble.

Imagine the confusion 30 years from now with the James River Armory M14's with welded heels from torch cut M14's.

This one is perfect for a gun turn-in program. Have grandma do it.

OP....the reason you got jumped on, is that law enforcement uses forums like these to entrap people into breaking the law.

Your post was a big, fat fish hook just waiting for some fool to PM you offering to buy the gun from you. That would be a big fat Federal felony arrest for some lucky LEO.

I am with the others, when I say you should strip the parts down and turn in the barreled reciever. Don't bother removing the barrel, that ain't an easy task.

I thought some M14s were/are rewelds and wouldn't be considered machine guns anymore.

Yup... A company called "Hahn" did these back in the 80's they were NFA exempt...

I seem to see m-14 prices all over the place.they don't seem to popular on this forum, although i've been a m-14 fan since my military days i havn't the faintest what a ex example of a converted springfield is worth. any help appriciated. tks mike

One needs to check on the receiver under the wood to see if the receiver is "Hahn" marked.

Man, I'd stop posting online and go to someplace like http://www.fulton-armory.com and talk to those guys there "hypothetically."

DOJ trolls are likely to jump the gun reading these posts and assume it's illegal. Read up online what you've been told so far without getting yourself in trouble.

What a sad testimony for a tremendous military rifle.
                            It's just not fair.

Thanks, that's what I thought. It would be sad if that's what it is and op turned it in for destruction.
