So, I really, really think this is a USGI stock. I've run across quite a few CMP stocks. Every one had a stamp on the right or pistol grip, or had an ink stamp with DOM on the inside.

There's a difference between stupid & ignorant, stupid is the inability to learn, ignorant is lack of knowledge. You're not dumb, you just didn't have the information.

Check with your favorite LGS d ask them if they're registered with the CMP. If so, fill out the paperwork and list them as the shipping address. If not, check with your next-favorite LGS, and so on. It's very likely that at least 9 out of every 10 LGS's have been listed with the CMP.

          So do I.

Many years ago I got an IHC rifle from the DCM, and it looked like that...... birch, through and through. Here's a thread I started on mine, with pictures:

Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

Ok. So now you Gots an M-1. Bring one of those "Smoke Wagons" out to BRRC, lets see what you got.

Your thread mentions an "Overton" stock. Perhaps mine is an Overton based on this web page: http://www.trfindley.com/pgm1stkid.html

After WW2 ended, the Overton Woodworking Corp. of Chicago began making replacement M1 Garand and Carbine stocks. One of their machine setups created a triggerguard notch similar to the Winchester "V" notch. Some sellers of these stocks optimistically describe them as Winchester stocks, when they are not. This picture shows a Winchester stock on the left with the full "V", and an Overton stock on the right with a semi "V"

Mine has the small semi-V behind the trigger guard.

The Winchester stock is on the top, with the more rounded pistol grip curve. The Overton stock is on the bottom, and has a less rounded curve. Overton made these stocks in both walnut and birch. This one is birch, made after 1960.

I can't really tell if mine is less rounded. It is certainly not brand new. It already has various dings and looks used, or it was just tossed in a bin and got dinged up.

                Good advice from Lima3/3....
While there's a lot of great info here on the web, it's not the same as getting on the line with your "new" M1 and others.

I brought an M1903, an M1917, an M1, and an M1 Carbine to the range one day. Guys firing their ARs & such stopped shooting just to look and touch real battle rifles. There's just something primal about wood & steel firing big bullets.

Thanks for the invite but Castaic is 4+ hours each way. Have fun.
I did take them both out to the range last week and they are fine shooters.

rdfact, Congrats on the two great rifles. Understood, 4+ hours would be a bit far for a club match for most folks. Enjoy.
