My M1A has a Boyd's stock and I loath it. The wood is somehow overprinted with fake grain & crappy varnish and when I stripped it off, the grain was completely different. It's also much thicker than a USGI stock.

If you've got both an M1 Garand and an M1A, measure the stock width at the receiver and the handgrip area, the Boyd's is significantly larger. Do not like.

No. It looks brand new. But the second one I like. Some like the new on Garand and others not.

Should a .......only an example ok everyone. ......64 yo rifle have a brand new stock? Just an example ok I'm a young guy

I agree with RoadTrax on CMP. Did you pull the main stock yet? Does it have the Boyds stamp in the barrel channel? Usually, you can immediately id the upper handguard since the retaining clip is much lower set on the new prod in the wood than the USGI stuff. I don't think that is a CMP issue stock, it looks just like a postwar birch to me.

In the case of M1s it's perfectly acceptable. The stocks aren't numbered to the rifle like the European guns are so it's not really a concern about lowering the value. Its always great to have a USGI stock but if it doesn't lock up tight you'll have a miserable day at the range with it.

I did take it apart and found no stamps.
