You're right. I just checked my Hornady 8x56R, the stamp on the brass is PPU.

Hard for me to like M95's considering its so damned hard to find a nice rifle. The refurbs on top of refurbs always turn me off. I have been looking for a good example for some years.

I finally found what looked like a decent example only to find out it was a swiss mannlicher chambered in 7.5. I still want that rifle but there is a really gutty appeal to 8x56R. The cartridge is a midpoint between elephant and military. Bought several boxes of Privi at the last gun show, but still no rifle.

I did end up buying a clean M.95 carbine from a fellow Calgunner for an amazing price. I am going to buy a couple boxes of PRVI and let this old wardog stretch its legs a bit. Handy little gun that barks thunder. What's not to like?

I have two M95s. One is a carbine and the other is a rifle that was cut down to a carbine Can you find them on my project wall?
Do not relish to feel what the men that used these weapons felt when they saw the elephant. For the elephant has tusk and to see him is to have his tusk dig deep into your soul. You will always have a part of you that will be cold and empty.

I certainly didn't imply they were not used by the wermacht, there are dozens of pictures of the German Volks brigades using them.

I implied that the eagle proof marks were most likely fake.

The German Reich were not in control of Austria at the time that these weapons would have been manufactured, the proof mark that is often faked is a manufacturers proof.
That these weapons were taken up by the Reich after marching into Austria has never been up for debate, of course they were, any weapon that was serviceable was put to use during the last days.
Captured Italian, Hungarian, Czech, Polish, French, British, Belgian, Austrian, Norwegian, Russian weapons were all used and often given German service names.

The argument that the waffen proof was put onto the rifle after annexing Austria doesn't hold, as an artificer at company might mark the weapon, but not in the manner shown on the fakes.

An easier although not 100% straightforward way to understand it, German proofs were put on firearms that were produced in captured factories under German supervision, not on captured firearms produced in factories that were not under Reich control.

The last M95's rolled out of the factory around 1938, I believe.

                  Hope this makes sense.

My post was in jest. I know Pitfighter knows his stuff. It is just a cool and interesting picture. The guy on the left seems like the stereotypical storm trooper, while the guy on the right is like the conscripted cannon fodder.

I really like the long rifle version of this it had this very narrow wrist and with such a slender elegant rifle I liked it quite a lot.

it had the optimistic beginning at 300-meter sites which I thought was sort of stupid and the bayos are rather unimpressive.

however it's a nice rifle to have Bobby I think you should get the long rifle version not the carbine
