    SVT40

    My newly purchased SVT40 showed up today. It is the result of drunken bidding on Gunbroker. Even at that I don't think I did too bad as the price was on the low side of average for completed auctions where the gun sold.

    Note to self: Do not get into any more pissing contests on auction sites!

    This is a 1941 Tula and is a typical post war rebuild with an electro penciled bolt and trigger guard. I am taking it out this weekend for a test spin with some commercial Wolf 174 grain ammo.

      How hard is the gas system to clean and how bad do some of them get with corrosive ammo?

                      This one is in really good condition with sharp rifling. As for the gas system, it comes apart easily.

                      I have a scope coming from Mother Russia as we speak and I found a good deal on a repop mount. I know that it isn't a real sniper as it doesn't have the cut in the receiver for the mount lock, but I am going to use a couple of set screws to lock the mount in place.

                          Congrats. That's a beaut!

                          The non-corrosive Wolf ammo seems like a great option. I have, and do shoot corrosive ammo through my Mosins, but would not enjoy using it in a semi-auto rifle (AK rifles excepted.)

                              Knew a guy that never cleaned out his gas system on his SKS. Said he dismantled it one day, hit it a few times, dust came out, and put it back together. YMMV
