Gun safe question / preference

I had Sportsman Steel Safe Co build me a safe in 1997. Its the Sergeant model. I had a thicker door added (3/8" plate steel) thicker walls, fireproofing and more locking pins. I think it was 1026.00 out the door.

IME, they make (made) a very good safe, it was made at their shop in Long Beach. At the time I never thought I would need a larger safe and up until this new year I haven't thought about going larger. I might just get another small safe.

Liberty Safes puts out a great product as well. I own two of their safes. Go bigger than you think you need. You will run out of space a lot faster than you think. 72" is a no brainier. I bought a 60" the first go around and my second safe is a 72". Spend a little extra now and you will be happy you did

1000 lbs lagged to the floor with a fire rating of 60 minutes @ 1200 degrees. Couldn't be happier with it and it's sure to last a lifetime.

I have a Cannon Series CA23 safe that I really like. It holds 24 long guns, made in the USA, has a 60 min 1200 degree fire rating and a cold smoke seal. They are very well built and have an electrical outlet and RJ45 jack if you want to keep your home surveillance computer in there.

Avoid the cheaper ones that are made in China if you can. They are welded together instead of press formed steel and can more easily be broken into by hitting the top with a sledge hammer.

I watched this video a few days before this OP. There's a lot of good info on it .

I've been looking at buying another safe because my collection is growing. I'm thinking about just getting a Ridgid job box and seeing how well that works for me, room wise.
I don't see any reason to spend 1K on a China made safe that will give me the same protection as a quality Job Box.

I watched a few of the safe videos on YT, which is how I narrowed it down a couple options. The UL listing, fire rating, and being US made became more important as I watched more and more.

There's an excellent 3 part series on what to look for. They explain the differences in construction, what you get as you pay more, what relocker systems do, drill plate, fire rating, wall thickness, etc. I'm watching the Weapons Ed video now... I watched his follow up to this one, which turned into a long sales pitch... I didn't go back to this one.

Can't thank everyone enough. Sometimes it's just the nuance info from experience that you can't get, or don't trust on a site selling you something
