    Gun safe question / preference

Firstly, I tried searching the forums, but kept encountering errors.

My question relates primarily to longer C&R rifles. I'm looking at upgrading my safe and would like opinions based on your personal experience with this.

I'm currently looking hard at the Winchester Ranger Deluxe 31. It's 60" tall by 36" wide by 25" deep. The UL RSC rating is appealing to me. I've considered Liberty, but the nearest dealer is 60 miles away.

Getting to the question, those of you that have invested in a safe, did you go with the 60" tall, or 72" tall version (of whatever your purchased)? I am wondering if I'll regret later not investing in the taller safe. If anyone has a 60" tall safe, have you ever found tough to fit the taller C&R rifles or shotguns? Any insight is appreciated

Most of my "long" long guns go in this safe. I don't see this brand mentioned much, but I have been delighted with mine and it was very affordable (under $1K delivered). It holds a lot of rifles and the shelves can be adjusted as needed. The top shelf has a cut out for longer guns to protrude through.

My safe is 60" tall and fits my longest rifles easily. Granted, I have almost no shelf space as I think it is silly to store things like ammo in a safe, my safe is only for guns.
A word of advice - invest in gun socks. Buy them by the 6 - pack and put all your guns in them. Attach a tag to each sock identifying which gun it is. You can fit the guns tightly together this way without scratching them all up.

I went through the same thing & was set on a 60". The wife was the 1 who said to go larger! The extra space is clutch!
Go taller you won't regret. I was looking @ the same line as you but ended up w/ the Silverado version

I bought a 72" tall Sturdy safe. It works great for me. I have two "top" shelves and there is still plenty of room for my Mosin Nagant which is my longest rifle. Offhand, I think I have probably 6 inches from the muzzle to the bottom of the lowest shelf. Should be more than enough room. The shelf track runs all the way down to the bottom and came with brackets to install a lower shelf to bring the shorter rifles like my AK to the level where it rests in a rail.

I've always highly recommended Sturdy Safe. They're a small, family owned company in California and they have many videos online of them torture testing their safes. I was entirely impressed with their customer service and with the safe itself.

Liberty Safes puts out a great product as well. I own two of their safes. Go bigger than you think you need. You will run out of space a lot faster than you think. 72" is a no brainier. I bought a 60" the first go around and my second safe is a 72". Spend a little extra now and you will be happy you did

I upgraded to a Liberty "Revolution" 18 rifle safe. Safe is 24" wide by 20" deep by 60" tall. Hard bolted to floor and fits perfectly in a closet. I have 10 rifles in there now and I just dont see myself out growing this safe.

What sold me was the vid on Liberty's website where they had to big guys with big pry bars push over a safe indentical to mine and they failed to pry open safe in 5 minutes. They was able to pry open two competitors safes within 60 seconds combined.

My Liberty safe comes with a impressive lifetime warranty. The build quality is excellent and is made in USA.

Check their website. http://libertysafe.com/safe-revolution-safes-ps-23.html I know they deliver. I bought mine on sale, saved about $100. but the one caviout was I had to pick up safe. The staff at the Sacramento showroom was super friendly.

I am +100% satisfied with my purchase, If I do outgrow the safe, all the better. I'll get another one...

Note: I used the liberty rifle rod pack. And it works. You can jamb a lot of long guns in and still use the shelves

I have a 30" and a 40" cannon, both 5 footers and I wish they were both taller.. fortunately they are fairly deep and fairly heavy..

long(er) guns or not, the space above the safe is just about useless anyways unless you build in some sort of custom cabinets..

at 6' tall myself, I find myself stooping a lot and wishing there was another shelf above the only one that fits above the long guns..

my advice is to go as tall, wide, and deep as you can fit and the heaviest you can afford.. they fill up fast..

when Mrs. Bee and I quit re-engineering our floor plan, I intend on buying a couple of 6 footers to replace these..

                        good luck
I started out with nothing - and I still have most of it

Get the 6' model. There is no downside.

I have a 60" 24 gun Sun Welding Pony Express, love it. Bolted to the floor. No downside to a 72", I just didn't have the height room where I put mine. Nobody ever regretted buying a big gun safe. We tend to outgrow them, especially us C&R collectors. I have twelve rifles stored outside my safe because it is full (of course the bolts for all of them are in the safe).

You guys rock, thank you all for your insight. Really some great info here

Bobby- I emailed Format to see if they deliver up to the bay area or have dealers near-ish to me. I had not heard about them before

Bainter and others- Gun socks and hang tags, fantastic idea regardless of whatever I wind up with.

I ran across Sturdy Safe in my research. Awesome outfit out of Fresno. But realistically, I'm trying to keep this under $2k before delivery. I will have to drive to San Jose or Sacramento to visit the Liberty show room.

sickboybrad- Never heard of Sun Welding before either, I'll look into freight/delivery options with them too. I looked up the Liberty rifle rod pack. Thanks very much for that lead, they're genius.

Couple things I've decided after researching these big heavy boxes:
I wish my driveway were flat. It slopes up to my garage, which makes delivery in the garage more complicated.
So far it seems the bay area is not as good as Southern CA for safe options

Re: the top shelf. I just have a pistol and a couple mags on mine. The shelf is small, so the other pistols are piled in with the rifles in rugs. It's basically overflowing. Anything I go with will be miles ahead of what I currently use

Need to decide if I am going to sacrifice the footprint in my 2nd bedroom, or my garage. Time to get the tape measure and see if the 6 footer will work where I want to put it
