Meh. I don't actively collect anymore. I'll still pick up something if it fits a hole in my collection. Or it is a really good deal. But for the most part, I either have all of the toys I wanted, or they are just too expensive for me to justify. I still try to go shooting. And I reload. But am I going to run out and grab a Mauser every chance I get? No. Not really. I am more likely to pick up C&R civilian guns at this point, but they have to be interesting.

Used to think it was cool when I was younger, now I realize it as the waste of money it really is. Would rather have a modern rifle that's actually capable of being accurate. Sold my Mosin and will never own another 70+ year old bolt gun, or anything that is that old, out dated and worn out again. Ps, Savage has a model that starts out at 300 dollars and it's capable of doing sub moa, google it.Comment

I open my freezer every day... and enjoy my American Samurai swords.

...and shoot'em every chance I get.

My 1941 Swiss K-31 is still quite capable even with "surplus" ammo. I must have pulled that one shot that impacted outside the 1" square of the others.

Your suggesting it's a waste of time and money and you should buy a Savage?Used to think it was cool when I was younger, now I realize it as the waste of money it really is. A Savage is a gun that in 50 years will be landfill. Hell, in 5 years it will be landfill.
One thing that has helped me keep ongoing interest is reloading for C&R, it's really quite easy and you can care better for the gun (reduce stress and wear) and shoot much more accurately. It takes an investment to get over the hump but not all I need is some Lee dies and I am off and running. Surplus ammo is like eating McDonald's instead of going to the store and making yourself a nice steak at home.
Been making 6.5 Swede, 30-06, 7mm Mauser, and .303. Getting some 7.7 Jap dies soon, Fun fun fun!Originally posted by doggieSomeone must put an end to this endless bickering by posting the unadulterated indisputable facts and truth."The California matrix of gun control laws is among the harshest in the nation and are filled with criminal law traps for people of common intelligence who desire to obey the law." - U.S. District Judge Roger T. This was me and motorcycles. I started out a college kid working at a shop, keeping bikes clean, shop running smoothly... worked in the industry for years, doing just about everything, finally working for the big glamorous manufacturer! And they killed all the joy. And now I have a fancy bike that mostly just sits in the garage. I take to the racetrack now and then and am starting to have fun again- but it took years to enjoy it again, and it isn't really the same...30+ years ago I worked in the LGS. It got to the point where I didn't want to go shooting or even touch a gun magazine. Playing with guns as a vocation ruined it as an avocation. Now all I want to do is sell the 91/30's taking up space that a few years ago I just had to have.

I know, boo hoo, but seriously, it's crazy how making your passion your living can really take all the passion out of it

I don't think buying a new rifle is the point. We all know you can go out and buy all the "newness" and "accuracy" you want. It is about learning about various firearms and the part they played in history. It is about the hunt for next firearm to fill that hole in your collection. It is about heading out to the desert to have shoot with your friends to see how well that old gun you worked on shoots now.Comment

This. It sounds like Germ 1 just doesn't "get" C&Rs. Nothing wrong with that, shoot and spend money on what you want, but most of us appreciate the history, craftsmanship and significance of what C&R arms represent. Modern guns are soulless, efficient and accurate but to most of us, boring, in comparison with real wood and steel guns that were designed and created by legends in firearms design and somewhat hand finished. I have a pile of ARs, a modern bolt action CZ-527 and some modern pistols. They are fun to shoot but the guns themselves are about as exciting as a vacuum cleaner or a Camry. Plastic doesn't hold tales and mysteries like wood and steel do.Last edited by Capybara; 11-20-2015, 7:42 PM.NRA Certified Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor, Shotgun Instructor and Range Safety Officer

I agree with that sentiment. Modern guns are effective and efficient, but just don't have that historical factor yet. Maybe in 25-50 years it will, but I still find it more fun to shoot my FALs than my SCAR 17.^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I have some AR's, a Tavor and some modern pistols. They are fun and all, but the just don't have the same feeling as a milsurp. I'll never but a Glock. And I'll never one of those types and sit at a bench at the range all day with their tacticool ninja plastic rifle getting one or two ****s off every half hour. There's no soul to that for me.-ChadComment
