Has this happened to anyone else here?

Just woke up one day and you weren't into it anymore?

20 years ago I got sooo much stoke from C & R collecting, you know? So much so that watching History Channel became financially hazardous: anything I saw in action on the program became my next "gotta' have it."

But a week or two ago I was at Angeles Range passing the time, and discovered I was having a lot more fun shooting my SKS than I was my Mauser. Quick follow-up shots, no recoil, banging the gong at 200 meters one mag after another. I'd been shooting bolt guns for SO long, I never really noticed that it wasn't so much fun anymore.

So that's it for me. I'm getting old I guess, but somehow I've had enough of getting my jaws rattled around shooting large caliber, centerfire bolt guns. I had a heck of a run, but that's that.

    Am I the only one?

It's just like anything else I suppose.. do enough of it and its fun factor will begin to ebb. Give them a rest for a while, I'm sure that you'll enjoy it again.

This exactly. Shoot some handguns or smaller caliber rifles and when you go back you'll either be into it again or you will know you are over it.

Good advice. I'm spending more time with handguns, seems easier to get out and practice more often...

I cycle around between different aspects of the hobby. When I started shooting rifles I hardly shot handguns at all for a couple of years. Then a couple of years ago I started competing with handguns again and shooting rifles seems like a distraction and kind of a pain (it's just so easy to load up more 9mm).

Sometimes it's more fun to just blast away with less powerful ammo. I've had those times where shooting my SKS, Mini 14, or ARs just seems more enjoyable. Put some time between range trips with the larger caliber rifles and spend more time with your pistols or SKS. After some time passes you'll probably find that taking out the big guns is fun again too.

Sounds like it's time to get into casting bullets and reloading.

My taste became more refined - or exclusive.

I stopped getting excited about the Mauser K98's, No4's, Arisaka's and Mosin's guns that once got my blood going.
                  I sold them all.
I am still collecting C+R exclusively pre-1945, but, the German stuff that self-loads is just more rewarding a hobby to me.

                  It did not get cheaper.

I'm just the opposite, its been months since I have shot my M48, Enfield, Mosins because my range has been closed. I am itching to get back to it.

30+ years ago I worked in the LGS. It got to the point where I didn't want to go shooting or even touch a gun magazine. Playing with guns as a vocation ruined it as an avocation. Now all I want to do is sell the 91/30's taking up space that a few years ago I just had to have.

At one point a few years ago, I sold off a lot of my M1 carbine collection(sold 20 rifles) and US martial .22's(15+rifles). I regret selling certain ones. It did clear up some space and made quite a bit of cash. That was good. It allowed me to fill a lot of holes in the collection for other rifles and pistols. If I get tired or bored with it, everything is always safe and secure, and I'll do something else for a while....but it always comes back.

My interests have waxed and waned as time goes by. I learned my lesson years ago and I don't sell my stuff off, as sure as heck once I get rid of something, I will want it back later on. Right now the full power bolt action military rifles sit quietly in the back of the safe waiting for me to get back to them someday. Right now I am mostly shooting handguns and a few intermediate caliber rifles. The only full power rifle I am shooting regularly is my PSL54C.

Recently I got my NFA trust going so I am moving into SBR's and silencers and I am really enjoying shooting the 1919-A4.

I've noticed this from when I've worked in the industry and with people that have massive collections such as myself. Not everyone but enough where I see a trend. I even knew a gunsmith that disliked guns. I still like it a lot but it even effects me. Picking up a gun to me is usually about as exciting as buying groceries.

You will find this hard to believe but I've been to Knob Creek a couple of times and did not bother shooting a machine gun or stick around for the night shoot I was mainly there to attend the gun show.
