Same thing happened to me. After a days work of selling guns, I did not care to see any in my time off.

Yes my C&R firearms do not seem so fun at the moment. After having my C&R for about 15 years, its not such a big thing anymore.

I feel the OP's sentiment. I have a decent collection of C&R's, but I enjoy casual desert plinking with an SKS, or shooting faster paced AR / pistol drills than I do shooting some milsurps (esp 8mm or 54R) from a bench at bullseye targets.

I'd even say that given the rate I shoot big bore rifles compared to the ammo I've stocked up, it would be nearly impossible to run out of most of the major milsurp caliber ammo I've got.

Altnernatively, I find myself needing to replenish x39, .223, and pistol calibers much more often.

This only happens when my many hobbies whittle down my cash flow. When I don't have the cash to buy ammo, more guns, or my time limits how much I can enjoy them I get down and then wonder why I spend so much money/time on this endeavor.

But as far as big bore shooting, yes I feel your pain. I love my rifles, but when out with my kids I typically end up shooting our .22's more than 223, 243, 3006, etc...

This very thought has had me thinking of picking up a semi auto 20g.

You need to diversify. Take a class....there are so many out there. Compete. Reload. Build a project gun.

This is the problem with "just" collecting. You are basically limiting yourself to a narrow hobby that can max out eventually.

My firearms hobby is pretty well rounded. I collect, I CCW, I take pistol, rifle and shotgun classes. I shot an Appleseed a few months back (VERY fun and challenging). I am in the long process of Bubbaing a rifle just to have a project to work on.
I am in the process of building a somewhat unique tactical shotgun. I shoot IDPA once a month. I also reload when I have the time.

Spread yourself thin and there will always be something interesting to look forward to.

Shanghai guy - Have you given Black Powder any consideration?
I have a pair of percussion guns (a rifle and a pistol) and it has def brought back my enthusiasm back!

This. I am the same, I collect, I CCW, I am an NRA Instructor, RSO, I love teaching others how to safely shoot, I am on the shooting sports committee of our local Boy Scout Council, I reload, I co-run the Ventura County Reloading Club with JJ805 and Stardunk. My "fighting" the tyrants in Sacramento is trying to keep the shooting sports alive in as many people as I can. Shooting is the best thing I have ever been into, great people, amazing history, how could I ever be bored with all of this?!?!

In a period of about 3 years, I went from 0 to 10 to 1 C&R long gun.
I kept a Swiss K31, sold all the rest.
Decided to go further back in time and got big into black powder.

My NV shooting pals tell me...

From 1984 to present, two-thirds of the cal gun-nuts who moved to Nevada returned to California or if they remained in NV they currently shoot less then they ever did in CA.

As for the remaining one-third's shooting popularity scale...

Judging from the mess they leave, tourists and untidy locals remain in a decades long tie between steel case 7.62X39 and twelve gauge.

For shooting, .22 LR is the number one choice, sub-sonic first choice in ammo, tie between pistol & rifle.

The .308 on the AR platform is second, with +90% of the participants reloading on a steady basis.

Apparently bolt action 30 caliber, non magnum, class rifles are currently not too popular with tourists and locals alike.

Sold about 20 C&R guns years ago. I only kept one Swede Mauser. I did purchase a CMP Special Garand in .308 a year ago. The rest of my stable is modern. I wanted to consolidate calibers. No regrets.

That would save me a lot of money if I followed suit.

For any of you guys that have lost the magic, have any rifles you want to get rid of? I have been wanting to plunge into C&R with an Enfield mkIV or a German Mauser. If they are boring now I'd be happy to give them a good home.

That is a good call. One of the most rewarding endeavors I have had was buying a non-import marked BNZ 45 phosphated Kriegsmodell barreled action. It was fun to track down "correct" parts for it. Although not entirely (but mostly) correct, I was delighted with the result and it is a great shooter.
