Mauser Broomhandle

I was doing my once a week gunshop crawl this morning and found this Broomhandle that had just come in for sale. I am not a big Mauser or C96 collector, but I just couldn't pass this one up.

I believe that it is a commercial production gun made during WWI. I don't know exactly how rare they are, but it is a complete matching number rig with a beautiful bore and I would rate the finish at a strong 95+%. It wasn't all that cheap, but I think I got an okay deal on it.

It's still an assault weapon. [PC 30515(a)(3)]

While in CA, it is not legal to install the shoulder stock/holster onto the handgun.
It is legal to own the shoulder stock/holster and to use it as a holster, but not legal to use it as a shoulder stock.

There is no C&R exemption to CA assault weapons laws.
There is an antique firearm exemption to CA assault weapons laws, that would apply to Mauser C96 made before 01-01-1899.

That would be an easy and non permanent fix. Just clamp a rod to it similar to a bayonet or one extending rearward from the stock.

I'm already a member there, but thanks for the heads up.

I have been trying to establish a value for it, but I can't find anything that is directly comparable anywhere. Even the big auction houses don't seem to have sold a complete numbers matching WWI rig anytime within the last few years. Gunbroker has tons of sold Broomhandles, but none in as good a condition that were complete with leather and tool. I took a leap of faith and bought it for $2K.

Whether I paid too much, or got a screaming deal (which I doubt), I really don't care as I have been looking to expand my collection with some more unusual items. If I overpaid it wouldn't be the first time I bought a gun a little too soon. I have had a worn out Bolo for a few years and have been looking for a nicer specimen for a while now. I have seen a few decent guns, but they were a bit overpriced in my opinion and I was kind of hoping to get one with the matching stock.

Awesome specimen. While they are not known as the cheapest place you can buy a gun, you would have paid a site more for it at Simpsons.
