Which form is the correct one?
I been buying from dealers a lot and only one PPT. I haven't gone out of state.
I don't want the DOJ knocking on my door, which one can I send in or do I send them all?

I'm assuming that you have an 03 with COE.

If you're buying from a dealer, no additional forms are necessary. All state requirements are satisfied with the DROS. Enter it into A&D book and you're done.

If you did the PPT thru an 01, then same as above.

If you mean face to face C&R long gun purchase, in CA, with no dealer involved, and you as an 03/COE, then you needed to file BOF 961, and entry into A&D book. All handguns need to go thru a dealer (FFL01).

I spoke with the DOJ and they said ALL firearms had to be shipped to FFL01 doesn't matter if I have my 03 + COE. If I purchased from a dealer out of state can I put the firearms on that same form?

Getting info/advise from DOJ is worse than getting gun law advise from a gun store. Re-read this thread, paying particular attention to Post 34, and you'll see how DOJ is wrong.

Yes, you can put multiple firearms on the same form, for a single $19 fee. IIRC, you can use addition forms, if needed, as long as they're submitted together. The guns can also be from multiple sellers, as long as they are all being submitted within the 5 (BOF 4100a) or 30 (BOF 961) day time frame, depending on which form you are using.

Thanks Tango. I did read the #34 and I figured the DOJ was misleading me. I was just unsure what form the required for the purchase of firearms from out of state dealers. I thought the 4542 form was the correct form for that but I wasn't sure.

When you mentioned that you hadn't gone out of state, I assumed that you had purchased everything thru CA dealers. Since you purchased from out of state dealers, I need to amend my previous post. An out of state dealer cannot submit a CA DROS. Therefore, if the long guns were shipped to your house, you have 30 days to submit form BOF 961. If they were shipped to a CA dealer, and a DROS was done, then there is no need for the BOF 961.

If, for example, you go to a gun show out of state and pick something up there, then you would need to submit Form 4100a within 5 days of bringing the gun back.

Form 4542a is a voluntary registration form. It's not intended for C&R registration. It's more for people who have a burning desire to register non AW firearms that they got prior to registration requirements.

This is the form you use if you purchased the C&R firearm out of state in person and received it while out of state.

This is the form if you purchased a C&R long gun from another party in CA or had it shipped to you from out of state.

If you purchased it through a CA dealer, you do not need to submit any more paperwork.
