Nothing in CA. The COE has become a necessary attachment. Not sure if you go to Nevada a lot, or other close states, but you could get your online purchases shipped to dealers there, pick them up and drive across the boarder, then register.

You can also purchase c&r pistols from places like cabelas and j&g and bring them home. Have to send in the doj registration though within 30 days just like before the CoE requirement

Yup, I was wrong. I just looked on DOJ website. I knew the COE exempted the FSC requirement in some application...

The CA DOJ should explain how a COE holder can be exempt for FSC cert when buying a C&R Walther P38 but would need a FSC to DROS a Beretta 92FS. Both pistols identical in function, this comparison applys to all firearms...

Yes, only for C&R firearms... and a C&R + COE also exempts you from the safe handling demonstration for C&R firearms.

My mistake. Was that a recent change or has it been that way for awhile? Bought a few pistols from j&g awhile back but that was years ago, could have very well been 5 days even then.

Been that way for years. Got my first 03 about 15 years ago and it was that way back then.

Yesterday I found another value for a 03 FFL. I was DROS two C&R revolvers that I bought in two separate auctions (one in MI and one in KY). The 03 FFL got me around the one handgun in 30 days limit.

I also think a CCW should serve as a COE. But that would be expecting that Ca gun laws to be consistent, and as has been pointed out here already, that is never going to happen.

I mailed both FFL03 & COE app off last Friday (9-11-15). As long as I didnt make any mistakes filling out applications both sould arrive about a week apart.

Look at the FFL03 & COE sticky and scroll through the last couple of pages. Most guys have been getting both within 30 days, most in less time unless a mistake was made...
