I use millcomm tw-25 but only because I have a bunch of it for my sigs. Tetra grease is very nice and much less expensive.Comment

Well since you're seriously saying they aren't competitive. Why aren't they?sigpic

I wasn't really thinking to much about the sling but it looks like its a pretty touchy issue, lol1928 Tula Mosin Nagant

While the marksmanship and skill of those competitive shooters is beyond question, I could not imagine a less interesting spectator sport. Do those events draw a crowd? I think I would rather watch a car rust than spectate a bunch of guys with notepads, shooting carts, and single gloves marching out to shoot slow fire at distant dots on the horizon.Comment

I don't know what kind of crowd they gather, never been to one. Looks like baseball though, I'd rather play then watchWhile the marksmanship and skill of those competitive shooters is beyond question, I could not imagine a less interesting spectator sport. Well...
Shot my USGI web-slinged M1 Beater yesterday slung, from field positions. Very nice tight groups. Flat, engineered range. Either sling would have worked well.
But the thing I appreciate about the web sling is that the real world is not a flat, engineered range.
When we go out, I bring a 100' steal tape and lay out 25/50/100/200 and sometimes out to 400 yards given the terrain.
Two shoots ago, we had a BLM range set up the draw of a hill. The line was level, 25 was 3' low, 100 was ~ 10' high, 200 was ~25' high.
W/ the web sling, sitting and prone sling adjustments between ranges was quick and easy... so the shooting is good.
The trip after that, we were shooting from a prominence, down at the opposite hillside of a running canyon... out to near infinity. The adjustability of web sling came in handy there as well.
M1907 for the range, Web sling for he real world.

U.S.G.I. A long time ago.
it's very discomfiting having to re-weld during a rapid fire string.
a Turner Saddlery M1907 is the minimum you need if you're going to get serious about Marksmanship competition.
as she said- the stiffer, the better.MAGAComment

well, I don't think anyone believes a High Power match is a spectator sport. You're absolutely correct, terribly boring to watch. While the marksmanship and skill of those competitive shooters is beyond question, I could not imagine a less interesting spectator sport. Do those events draw a crowd? I think I would rather watch a car rust than spectate a bunch of guys with notepads, shooting carts, and single gloves marching out to shoot slow fire at distant dots on the horizon.
if you're not on the line, next best place is in the pits.MAGAComment
