Will an M44 stock fit on a 91/30? - link to pics added

I am going to cut a Mosin 91/30 to 16 1/2 inches and want a new stock for it... do you know if an M44 stock will fit the action? I could save a little money by going that route

Added- shes done, check her out

Why not just buy an M44?

It should work, though you might have to do a little bit of inletting in the shoulder area. Here's a link to the barrel contours and you'll see what I mean about it being very close.

Why not just sell the 91/30 and get a M44 or M38? An M44 stock will cost you about $40 or so dollars, then whatever tools you might need and the price you put on your own time... is it really worth it?

I really want to build this thing up. I plan on being a gunsmith and trying to design new guns later in life, only 20 now, so I'm just kinda getting my feet wet by doing little things. I pay for books when I go to college, so I pay for tools and parts when I learn how to work on guns... seems like its worth it to me, at least I enjoy the guns, not so much college though...

I agree, please don't slice it up.

I know it's your property and you want to be a gun smith, etc, etc.

its his gun. he can do whatever he wants to it. but..... my advice, cut it down an inch at a time. cut it, crown it, shoot it. that way you get lots of practice off of one gun.

I think he already carried out the slice n' dice (check the other post he has). Ya, it's sad to see a milsurp get treated that way, but it is his and he wants to learn gunsmithing.

I know many see this type of modification as blasphemy, but better a Mosin than a Mauser!

Haha, sorry guys i did already bubba it... I had a talk with my friend, also a calgunner, and we came up with a good design for this old girl. Its very tastefull, I am in the process of fixing the stock, replacing the removed wood near the tang with epoxy, and god I can't wait to get my re crowning tools and finish what I have planned. I have four other mil surps, and they are in prime condition... the way I see it its just a Mosin, I got it for $75, there are millions more... but when I am done there will only be one as classy and sporty as mine.
