For better or worse I order a CMP 1903A3

Well I know I'm taking a gamble but I sent my forms in for a 1903A3
I did this for 3 reasons:
    1. I could try a Gun show but most Ive been to are high priced
    2. I like the A3 peep sights (shooting would be similar to the m-16 which I am well famillar with)
    3. If the barrel is toast I can get a replacement fairly easy as compared to a 1903 or A1 and then I can work on a restoration and than in and of itself would be fun.
I have a M1 and while its fun to shoot like my AR I tend to waste ammo with it
I got a Remington SPS in .223 because I can shoot 20 rounds at the range and I wont waste them all at once like I would in my AR the same can be said of the 03. Two boxes of standard 30.06 will last me a few hours and wont cost me a arm and a leg like I would If I used M1 8 round clips

I did the same for the 1903A3 barrelled receiver. I'll build it up with a NM barrel and trigger. Sent in the mail overnight Monday. Hope they are still available and not sold out when the letter is received.

I don't think they'll sell out that quickly. They still have some 1917 enfields left. You should be okay...

Thanks. I'll keep my fingers crossed. There's only 45 of the RemA3 recievers. Last time they had 03's they went fast. Hopefully, there will be less interest in the reciever and not too many in the mood for this type of project.

A year ago, I picked up an M1 carbine. Mailed the letter over the weekend with it arriving day 1 of sales. CMP posted a picture of baskets full of order forms...... 1st batch already sold out.

I guess I should start looking for National Match Barrel

Before this batch, when was the last time they had them?

Sorry, wish I could remember. I was reading about them on the CMP forum someplace. I probably don't recall correctly, but am thinking 10 years ago.

Where are you getting your barrel from? Do you know if they make NM 03 sights?

Sorry. No idea on either at this point. There's a guy down at the club with an 03 and NM barrel/sights. I'll check and PM when I find out. Honestly, the reciever is a bit of an impulse buy (always wanted an A3). I'll start thinking about the barrel/sight if/once the reciever is here. Pac nor perhaps? Any suggestions?

Ah~, ok. I was wondering if you knew something I didn't

Yeah, i'm going with Pac-Nor. Though I doubt NM sights are available for the 03. They're supposed to be finely tuned already, especially the flip-up sights.

                    EDIT:

Also don't forget you have to send the barrel to get sights installed. Pac-nor only cuts the barrel and head spaces it. All the other machining needs to be done somewhere else. Some people from the CMP forums recommended me to Chuck who's a well known 03 rebuilder: molinenorski@msn.com

edit 2: Honestly guys, I don't know why you're so scared of ordering from the CMP. My 1903 still has it's original 1921 barrel and it's really accurate for a GI gun. The CMP guarantees they are head spaced properly so they are safe to shoot. I don't know what's to be scared of. Chances are the only thing you'll need to replace is the stock. They tend to get soaked-through with cosmoline after 80 years of storage.

The only thing they CMP admits is a "crap shoot" are the Krag-Jorgensen rifles they were selling, but so many people complained about those that they don't sell them online anymore.

Me and toolman did okay but I know that there were some people that were pissed...

I was really happy with my Krag, espcially after the first trip to the range! Pretty accurate for 110 year old rifle!

We should start a Calguns 1903 Springfield club!

                            No, seriously!
