I tried a Magpul AFG and liked it , so I added one on here.

Also, I wasnt going to buy a bipod for every upper so I just mounted the bipod on a quick release mount. I mounted the lower rail extending slightly forward of the handguard so the AFG would fit where I wanted it and the full contact area of the quick release was clamping the rail.

I finished the second one last night , kept it a little more old school ( But had to have a heavier barrel , and I love the PRS stocks )

Oh , and I am going to have to pony up for another Geissele 2 stage trigger...I thought I could get by with using the standard trigger in this build...but that aint gonna happen...I got spoiled out of the gate.

Very cool first 556 builds. The first one looks like a really fun target rifle. What model light is that? It looks familiar. I also really like the nice work bench for your projects. Must be nice.

Like yourself I got spoiled right out of the gate with a match grade trigger, in my case the Chip McCormick drop-in trigger. At first all I did was target shooting, so it was perfect for that. However, lately I have been more interested in running and gunning tactical style training - which until now I have been doing mostly with a handgun. I quickly realized a match grade trigger is not appropriate for that. With all that movement, all that adrenaline, and all that fatigue, you need a trigger with resistance. Don't get me wrong, match grade triggers have their place. Since this second one is a 20" barreled rifle, and since you have the PRS stock on her, she is probably meant to be a target rifle. In which case a match grade trigger will be great. However, if you decide to use it as a run and gun rifle and take a few courses with her in the future I would caution against it. The added benefit to using a military trigger being you save some coin on the build, or you have some extra coin for optics.

I have a CMMG Military trigger in my run and gun builds, and a Chip McCormick Match Trigger in my .308 and plan to use it in my Recon Rifle as well. As far as military triggers go, CMMG makes a pretty good one. Better than the DPMS one I had before. But it is a longer, stiffer pull and definitely takes some getting used to when you are not jacked up on adrenaline. When your pulse is racing, however, you barely notice it.

I am of course by no means an expert, I just listened to a few of them when they said the match grade trigger in my light M4 could cause me trouble as I start to run out of breath and my adrenaline skyrockets. In my precision rifles they are a major plus.

I have Jewell triggers on my bolt action 700's and KIDD triggers on my 10/22's , so I am used to a nice trigger pull... but the general concensus here on the forum was that the non adjustable combat SSA 2 stage Geissele was basically bulletproof/reliable but still had a nice pull...they were so right...and still perfect for run and gun.

Ordered another one this morning , they are worth the funds.

I didnt want 10 different rails and a huge light hanging off the front of the bull barreled AR , I just wanted a simple tiny rail and the smallest bright light I could mount...so I just drilled and tapped the DPMS forend for 6-32 screws ( I used stainless allen head screws ) and mounted a YHM 4" rail tucked up close to the scope right where my left thumb could work the switch on the Streamlight TLR-3.

That way when I pull the scope and want to use the backup sights, its still out of the way and not sticking too far out on the left side and not blocking the sights.

I stand corrected then, sounds I had the trigger confused with something else entirely.

Just went through an AR course today with my CMMG Military Trigger, and it was perfect that type of CQB role. For longer range reach out touch somebody shooting and I definately want a Match Trigger that was light as can be (which my Chip McCormick Trigger is). But the military trigger is perfect when your moving around and don't want to risk an ND, which from your description of your trigger would not be an issue. Gonna have to differ to your research on that. Those adjustable triggers looked a little complicated to me, but it sounds like you have the mad skills to adjust them and get them setup correctly so you have my respect big time. It might be easy as pie, I've just never gone there. My gunsmithing skills are very basic. I only work on my personal rifles and even then only do the basic assembly see-spot-run stuff. I let the pros at the manufacturer's shops put together my customer's stuff just to be on the safe side of things. If I need any complicated gunsmithing done I usually send my stuff to CMMG to get the work done. They have always done me right. Still, it must be great to have the tools and skillsets to tweak your rifles however you like all your own.

That TLR-3 light looks great. My supplier carries them so I am gonna have to add them to my stores inventory and probably pick one up for myself for my M4. So thanks for the inspiration there.

I Just built this. Spikes Tactical ST-15 lower, vltor emod butt stock, ARGold trigger system, Addax side charging GPU upper. Freaking awesome!!! Smooth as ice. Not one jam. 100 yrds, iron sights, can hit dead center bulls eyes all day. There is a tiny tiny wobble that is so small not even worth mentioning. But, It bugs the #$%@ out of me. I slapped a accuwedge in there which eliminated the wobble. But, the accuwedge pushes the upper away from the lower rather than bringing them together like the JP expanding take down pin. There wouldn't be any long term damage from this separation would there? Again, I'm being really anal but as much as I spent on this I want zero wobble. Any comments on the expanding take down pins?
