Good observation, the Apex tube is like no other. The larger diameter "top" allows clearance for a gas tube while the buttom is slim, best for smaller hand applications. It will not work with gas pistons, because the "provided two barrel nut clamps" pinches the gas tube. The two clamps goes on the barrel nut and then the tube acts as a sleeve. There are also four screws to lock the tube onto the clamps. Complexated?, I've researched many free float tubes and have narrowed down to a few. Apex machining is the lightest FF tube that uses the factory barrel nut. The Bushmaster carbon upper uses a non-mil-spec "larger diameter" barrel nut, defeating the chance to use many FF tube manufactures. I rather give up the choices than to give up a 3.8oz stripped upper. What started out as a light weight build for my girlfriend became, "Let's see how light we can get this rifle for her".
Yes, she enjoys it. We plan to hit the range twice a month, enough so she can be one with the her rifle. That's good news for me
. However, the recoil on that gun sucks. The light weight BCG flies back fast, and the 1" ACE recoil pad is no help. I know you and your brother loves the Battle Comp. How much of a recoil would it reduce?
