I'm not on a SWAT team, but I have been trained as an Infantryman. I've been trained during SDM training to hold the weapon by the magwell when prone and kneeling to avoid interference on the barrel and changing POI thanks to the M4/M16 barrel not being free floated.

However, I've also been taught by the same NCOs who taught me to hit targets 550m out with an M4 to control the rifle while shooting from a standing position by holding my arm out extended as far out front as I can get on the weapon. Wasn't taught by Chris Costa, but it works so that's probably why Costa teaches it to people in his classes. People can think it looks silly or that I do it just because the guys in the Magpul videos do, but from my experiences using it I have much more control of my weapon - which for me in my field as an Infantryman really could be the difference between life or death. I'll stick with what works for me regardless if it looks unorthodox.

funny thing is a lot of people thinks Chris Costa and the Magpul guys invented this type of technique. It's been used for a while by 3 gun shooters and was ported down by military use for better shot placement and accuracy. And of course it becomes really popular after magpul released their DvD's.

Well I would post more pictures if I had more .223 self loading ca legal rifles. I don't want to keep posting 100 different pictures of one rifle .

Need to get some better pics... excuse the messy counter... I like this gun a lot, Wanting to go back to a standard FSB and carbine rail though. It now wears a A2 grip because the hogue was a bit big for me.

Really there's some logic behind it, but lots of people do it because that's what they were taught in a tac class
Hmmmm, I have never seen it before I saw that picture.

I think it's way over the top, but then again I'm not much into AR-15's.

Seems like if it's "urban / tacticool / the-best-way-to-do-things" type of deal.......I only see it as setting up your entire hand and forearm as a target the next time you peep around a corner. I don't see the point in it, at all.
