I have a scout and a loaded. Picked up the scout during the lead up to the aw ban a couple of years ago thinking it would pass. Personally, one m1a is enough for me. But I don't lose any sleep over having two.

I suppose if I were rich I'd buy every single one just to do it. But then I'd also be living in another state where I could have unneutered "evil" rifles so my M1A would be taking a backseat to the SCAR, LMT, GAP, etc...

          HEAVY.

That was Rogue #1, and it was very heavy.
About two years later, I tried a Gen II Rogue.
Even though it was about a pound lighter that #1, it was still heavy.
It really needs to be another 2 lbs. lighter than it is.
I sold it, and put my CQB-16 in a Blackfeather.

          My review of the Rogue.

I have a LRB that Lew put together as per my request and it's a great shooter, the receiver is as close to USGI spec as you can get and it's forged. Yes have at it collecting them but it's gonna be a bit on the high priced side. A new LRB probably cost upwards of 2,900.00 now. HTH

As with any rifle, I'd suggest the most standard 'issue' configuration, and if possible, the one with the most wood I like the regular full size and the 18" bush gun (if that's what they still call it) - lovely classic guns, though my heart loves FAL's and AR10A2's more. Get the one that calls to you the most and enjoy!
                Seriously missing the 80's.....

Thanks brotha! Nice reviews, seems like it's very heavy. I really love the walnut stock on the scout, I don't think I will ever change it out, which is why I will eventually buy a socom 16 for the tinkering

Is the socom the latest m1a variation springfield made? I wonder if they ever have plans on newer model or upgraded design? That would blow the roof off! It would be a highly anticipated rifle

Thank you. I had my Scout bedded in walnut, and loved it, but injures & age caught up with me. Today, pistol grips are about all that I can shoot without experiencing serious pain in my hands & wrist.

Yes it is, and the SOCOM M1A hit the streets in 2004. Smith Enterprise did not come out with their 16.25" barrel until 2011. Other companies recently began offering a 16.25" barrel option. I do not see a newer model in the works, plenty of upgrades, but no brand new M1A model.

Yep, LeFrance & SEI K guns, and the TROY SOPMOD conversions are out there, but both were produced in extremely low numbers. Neither have been produced for quite some time.
