If you like it get it, lets not pretend we dont put stuff on our guns because it works, AND looks cool to us. SO if they look cool to you but dont really do anything, so be it. If i was extending a 12 inch barrel for OAL id use one, the 5 inch muzzle devices look worse in my opinion. I doubt id ever put one on the end of a 16 inch barrel but ymmv

Yep, the rifle I have in the post above has a perfectly useless fake can on it. It actually slides over the barrel and is more of a sleeve than anything.
It does nothing but adds weight and looks cool (opinion).
I try to tell myself it helps cut muzzle jump, which it does. But I got it because it looks pretty cool and looks better than that pencil barrel it came with sticking out like a teenage boys tool in a girls locker room. LOL.

So I'm doing research for ideas on my next build, and the idea of using a fake can to meet legal length as crossed my mind. I want to build a plinker SBR style of riffle.

Anyone done this? Am I just better off doing a 14.5" barrel? As too why I want to do this, because I can.

wow I finally get to respond... and man theres so much hate for the fake can silencer. All I asked was for some help and most on here are venting. Jeez I dont even think im going to get it anymore with all that trouble.

I have three. One on one of my tacti-cool .22s, one on a handgun and one on a .223.

Here's the .22 (next to a .223). They're all light weight.
Mine are all MFI, I really like MFI.

They're cool.

If you, like many, like guns also for their looks just do it.
It's reversible and relatively inexpensive.

Never cared for fakes. I guess because it's like putting 5.0 badges on a 6 cylinder Mustang. You can extend barrel length without resorting to fake cans. I will admit that they look cool as heck.

You know racing stripes add 30rwhp to any car. Who knows...maybe the fake can automatically gives you "operator" status and you grow an instant man-child beard.
