For the same reason Toyota put a fake hood scoop on the 4runner.

Thanks, for everyones input I guess. Didnt realize there was that much hate over one item. Would of just helped me if you guys said its deadweight and aesthetic only instead of adding all the unnecessary opinions about it. Thanks anyways

You can get reverse threaded ones from amazon for pretty cheap that'll make a 16 inch ar look like a suppressed 11 inch. It may not be functional but if you like the look f*** everyone else's opinion. It's your rifle. You're the one who has to look at it every day.

Wouldnt use it otherwise.

If you get an aluminum one you can use it to lengthen a short barrel and it would be lighter than a 16" barrel.

Most of the aluminum fake cans are significantly heavier than the equal length of steel barrel.

If you like it get it, lets not pretend we dont put stuff on our guns because it works, AND looks cool to us. SO if they look cool to you but dont really do anything, so be it. If i was extending a 12 inch barrel for OAL id use one, the 5 inch muzzle devices look worse in my opinion. I doubt id ever put one on the end of a 16 inch barrel but ymmv
