It all comes down to philosophy of use. But i think those who have already stated that are diminishing returns as the price passes a point are correct in most cases.

If your upper and lower receivers are both 7075 T6 and fit together well, and are finished well... That is step 1. If you choose a good barrel, that is step 2. If you choose good "inner" components, machined to fit well and are made out of the right materials, that is step 3. The rest.. rails, stocks, sights etc. are subjective. How much does all of that "need" to cost?

I have low budget ARs like delton and built dpms, aero precision as well as Noveske , Daniel Defense , LWRC .. There are big differences between the build , quality , weight , accuracy , cosmetic , .. I like them all ,

Overpriced forged lower receiver that's the differences.

Nope...wasn't gonna go there. SnapOn vs Craftsman!

And ok, for the purpose of making my point, let's assume it's Craftsman from back in the day when they were made in 'murrica instead of China.

Anyway, both will turn the nut. Is the SnapOn nicer? Yea, it sure is. But is 'X number of dollars" nicer? Only you can decide that.

Good barrel, trigger and bcg. The rest is fluff.

Yeah, I only got it because of the awesome price I bought it for from another calgunner.

I respect and appreciate these nice $4k AR rifles. I just think they are F'ing boring. I'd rather pay for an old colt wheelgun or something foreign for that kind of money. To each his own although I agree with Brian Rodela. And I think this is the most replies Ive ever gotten on a thread lol..

Those who have never seen or handled the FORGED MONOLITHIC UPPER of an LMT MRP (monolithic rail platform) have zero credibility when they claim that the premium price on such rifles is just for the LMT logo.

So true you will never understand to you have some real trigger time behind a high end AR.

My buddy has an LMT MRP as a duty rifle w/o BB or because he got it with a dept letter. I HATE him for it. It's a very nice rifle and he's a bastard for being lucky enough to own it. My only gripe is it's weight but a LMT upper with DD RIS II rail will fix that. He's still got that special lower.

Your getting a lot more when you go from the $500-800 price range commercial grade AR to the $1000-1500 mil spec rifles. After that its what fancy rail system and match grade barrel that you want.

I keep having this on going argument with my two shooting buddies...dedicated AR fanboys....about the prices on these LMT and other crazy $3-5k AR rifles.

I keep saying that they are just high end direct impingement system AR rifles. I dont see the difference between a nice $1200-$1400 AR and those crazy higher priced ones.

American soldiers dont use $5k AR rifles...It seems like a damn joke to me. These AR companies popping up every day.

They keep saying.."BRO...its HAND made BRO" But that's the best argument they have. So...... who is right? What can I say to sort of end the argument...or am I wrong?

P.S. I'm trying to steer one of them into buying something different like a SCAR or an FAL or a G36 clone with that money...I just dont see the attraction in this.
Ok well a little confused. First of all LMT is not some fly by night company that just popped up. They are vetted. Second of all, last time I checked an LMT defender is right in your price range of 1200:

I have no idea where you are getting this 5k price tag from Maybe you're thinking of the LMT MWS which is a 308 and still is only around 2,500? I don't know of many 5.56 AR's that are $5,000....

For me as long as an AR is milspec I'm happy. LMT, Colt, BCM, DD, Noveske, Knight's, etc (none of which sell a $5,000 5.56 that I am aware of) all do this just fine. I would rather stay away from commercial rifles like bushmaster etc because a milspec rifle is only a couple hundred dollars more. Not thousands as you are suggesting.

Whether to choose a SCAR or FAL or G36 is a completely different discussion and comes down to which platform you are proficient with and prefer.
