windex will help to neutralize acids but it will not remove salt

i wonder why we cant throw a sacrificial anode on our guns like we do with our ships

I just got a 5.45 AK74 and a crate of corrosive ammo. I have one of those electric hot water pitchers. All I do is heat up one pitcher of water and pour it through the bore, gas tube, and on all the internal parts. Since its hot it evaporates really quickly. Then I just wipe down and lube like I do with all my other ARs and AKs.

It only adds like 5 mins to what is normally a 10 min process to clean my gun and I have not seen a spot of rust on it. As others have said the corrosive stuff is water soluble, just make sure you are liberal when applying that water and heat increases solubility.

That would be interesting to see a galvanized rifle, or little Zn blocks tucked away in the corners of the receiver.

Strangely enough, I'm considering doing this on a Mag lower. They claim it'll be fine but it'll be interesting to see.

Negative, ammonia does nothing, just use boiling hot water. Furthermore, if you don't have a chrome lined bore and leave windex/ammonia solution on for a while it can have adverse effects on your barrel (per Krieger).

So what is the proper way to use them? First, not all chemical cleaners are compatible with each other. Some, when used together can cause severe pitting of the barrel, even stainless steel barrels. It is fine to use two different cleaners as long as you completely dry the bore of the first cleaner from the barrel before cleaning with the second. And, of course, never mix them in the same bottle. NOTE: Some copper solvents contain a high percentage of ammonia. This makes them a great copper solvent, but if left in the bore too long, can damage/corrode the steel. Do not leave these chemicals in a bore any longer than 10-15 minutes MAXIMUM! DO NOT EVER use straight ammonia to clean a barrel.
Been considering building a 5.45 upper for a while, but my SGL 31 is more than sufficient.

Exactly. I do it when I get home from the range, all other firearms that have not had corrosive fired through them take a backseat. It takes me a little longer, I try to get every nook and cranny and always remove the muzzle brake to clean it and the muzzle.

For me personally I'd be worried about corrosion on the MD threads long term. At least on an AK that's part of the cleaning regimen and is designed to be taken off to have access for cleaning. The next thing I would be worried about would be the gas block the tube isn't as big as an ak and getting water down it into the barrel seems like it would be harder.

Most gun cleaning solvents do not remove the salts from corrosive ammo. After all they are designed for modern guns that do not fire corrosive ammo.
                      clp powderblast does work.

my method is to just boil water in a pot then pour it all over the gun to make sure it flushes everything. because the water is hot it will evaporate quickly and i also make sure i use an air compressor to flush whatever remnants of water is left behind. in the absence of an air compressor i use Mpro-7 to flush the salts off.

nothing is going to dissolve the salts, you need to flush them out and the cheapest way is water.

Ok, doesn't sound too bad. Kinda like combining cleaning a Mosin and cleaning an AR. I think I'll dedicate a pot to cleaning duty, so that I can strip the BCG and boil it a bit.

I was thinking of building a side charging gun, not sure though.

Any suggestions on what upper, and what barrel, to use? I plan on just using a 16" barrel, lightweight if it's possible to find in 5.45, not sure if I want midlength or carbine or whether or not to go free float.

Take a look at this thread, especially post #9:
