Thanks for all the input fellas!!! I will most likely be placing my order tonight when I get home from work.

Anyone run a Meprolight? I run their night sights and love them so I'm sure its good but it looks kinda bulky and dated.

You don't see them a lot here in the US, but the Israeli's use them. I don't have any first hand experience with them.

You see a lot of European shooters using C-More railsight red dots. You don't see those that often here either.

I'm sure both options are fine, but they are not the usual solution for the American market. Aimpoint and EoTech got the US military contracts, and are very well made products, so everybody here is drawn to them.

It could be worse, I'm drawn to the $700+ options like Aimpoint T-1s in Larue Mounts and have multiple ARs to outfit. So you could be in my shoes trying to come up with the funds for those babies on an already overextended budget.

It's kind of amusing when people complain about the battery life of the Eotech, especially since the OP says he's planning to use it to punch paper. 600 hours is a lot of range time, even if you shoot every day. A battery would easily last a couple of years like that. Just turn the Eotech off when you're not using it, it can take it. The Aimpoints I own on the other hand, seem to have pretty tempermental rheostats, when it comes to turning them on and off, which is one of the reasons why the company recommends leaving the RDS constantly on.

Agreed. Battery life is a silly concern at 600 hours.
The new ones will blink on power up when the batteris are low and
warn you when you still have many hours of life left. No doubt then to spend weeks wandering the zombie apocalypse wasteland to look for batteries after countless hours of combat draining them. Unless of course you just kept some spares in those storage compartments. Which a lot of Aimpoint users do too.

Sold my Eotechs years ago. Heavy, bulky, and ****ty battery life. I was lucky to get half the battery life claimed by Eotech.

Go Aimpoint micro and never look back. Lighter, tougher, waterproof, and can be left on for more than 5 years.

I do like my EoTechs, but I like my Aimpoint CompM3s more.

The Aimpoint is easier for me to keep clean and for me has better quick target acquisition.
I feel like my EoTech is always fuzzy.

Not that often and maybe that's the reason why, I fought insurgence in the Philippines from 1992 till 1998 before coming here in the US and being a member of the arm forces of a 3rd world country you only got to use your iron sights, maybe that's the reason why my eyes never got use to just a red dot.

Needless to say I do got the Aimpoint T1 and it does bother me so I just mount it on my GSG 22 rifle.

I find both to be slightly fuzzy. The eotech a tad more but that is because it is not just a dot but a larger design so you notice it more.

The average Joe unknowingly cranks up the power to about 10 times what the setting should be. It seems to be instinct to do that. The more you crank up the power the more fuzzy it gets.

Also bear in mind the setting that works best outdoors at noon is going to be radically different than the setting that works best inside at the same time. The more natural light the more power you need to punch through it. So what was ideal outside will be way to bright/fuzzy inside. Even stepping into a shaded area can be the difference between being too much power and thus fuzz. Nothing is perfect. Push on.

I had lasik surgery so to me they will all have a slight starring effect. Unlike with your irons you don't need to focus on the sight. You can focus on the target slightly more. Basically the exact opposite of what you've been teaching yourself to do for years. This and dialing down the power a notch or two should eliminate the staring effect to where it is barely there at all.

you gotta shoot them and see what your eyes like better.

Bought an XPS3 as my first foray into Eotechs. Had heard of the fuzzy reticle before. Don't really like it. Luckily, I only use it for target practice. Oddly enough, with the 3x magnifier on, the reticle is perfectly sharp.

                          xps2

I recently purchased a new eotech xps2 on ebay for $410. I picked the xps series since it was seemed to be the newer model that fixed the few complaints about the older models. I wasnt to happy at first because the reticle seemed pretty fuzzy. But after reading the manual I adjusted the brightness, its location on the rail and the fuzziness is gone. Very happy with it. Lines up with my back up sights perfectly, so if the battery dies or it breaks, I can continue shooting using the back up sight without having to remove the xps2.
I was thinking of a cheap surefire, but their battery life is 24 hours. When I added the amount I would spend on batteries with the surefire, the eotech didnt seem so expensive. Very happy with the xps2 once I got it adjusted and learned to concentrate on the target, not the reticle.

                            I have 5 512s ranging from 9mm rifles to 50bmg, I love them.

Went with 512 years ago and kept buying it because AA is more abundant than 123 batteries. I'm not concerned about battery life, I don't leave end sights on when I store them.

I've used, liked and advocated for aimpoint products based on the good experience I've had with them, but I'm consideringh an eotech XPS for my next sight purchase.
