    Youth .22lr

Any suggestions on youth .22 rifles that are good for starting out young ones and are fairly inexpensive? ....and is anyone selling one? Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Chipmunks or Crickets are pretty popular with the youngsters.

I have an 8 year old boy who is growing like a weed. I decided to skip any youth sized rifle because I figured it would not last him long.

I bought a Henry Survival 22, figuring it was sized about right, he would enjoy shooting it and it would be fun to pack around with us. He also shoots his great great gradfather's old Winchester single shot and a couple .22 pistols.

A Ruger 10/22 might be a good choice too..................pretty much an endless selection of stocks and goodies for it.

Both are very good choices for the little one's. Here's the Savage cub. I have one of these ready to go (I just need to borrow a couple of kids, or have some myself).

My boy bought one of those with his birthday money when he turned 7. It is a really nice rifle for a kid. I really like the peep sights that it comes with for kids because they make it easier for them to get a good sight picture. Also, it comes with the accu-trigger which is nice. I would definitely recommend this accurate little gun.

My dad started me and my siblings with the Marlin (Glenfield) model 60.

I grew up shooting a Seneca Green Remington Nylon 66. I loved it. I still do. It is one of my favorite .22's to shoot.

Here is a pic of a Nylon 66 (not mine thought).

You can't go wrong with a Ruger 10/22. This is the gun I plan to start my son on

                  Cricket

I second the cricket. It is a simple single shot, bolt action that has to be "cocked" each time. Around here they are under $200 out the door.

I sighted mine in my back yard (I'm out in the country where it is legal to shoot in my back yard) and they are accurate little rifles that are lots of fun to shoot. When my son is old enough, he will enjoy shooting it.

My 1st choice would be the Ruger 10/22 but it is not a "cheap" rifle, it will however last for many many years with little or no problems.

I would recommend a CZ 452 scout! It has a single shot mag, and can use 5 and 10 round mags too. It is as accurate as all get out. Got my son one when he was 6yrs old. He treasures it! I even love to shoot this little rifle. It'll be in the family for a long time!

I would not use a 10-22 or any semi as a first gun. A single shot will instill the importance of making every shot count.

thanks to everyone for such fast responses and many of them. I know turners has the Savage for $179 so I might go with that. Thanks again.

I agree with the crickett. My 6 year old son has one and it is great. He hits targets out to 50yds with the iron sights. Bolt action, single shot, and has to be cocked every time.
