All I have to say is that getting a SAIGA is wack! It's cheap, you're looking to spend an extra $200 on parts for the mod and that's not counting sending it to a gunsmith if you f-up. I had a Saiga and got rid of it for its inability to please. It was accurate, but it felt like I was playing with a kid's cheap airsoft rifle.

WASR-10

Don't all of these modifications that are required to convert this rifle to look and work like any other AK-variant defeat the purpose of buying a cheap Russian rifle over a kit and US made receiver?
If you are going to go through the pain of drilling out rivets and modding trunnions - why not just build a kit based AK variant from scratch. At least this way - you get what you want from the start. You can finish your rifle any way you want and quality control is up you.
As to whether it's Russian or not. Well - it's not an original Russian made AK-47 with Russian proof markings and selector markings - it's a russian made Saiga rifle with US selector markings and import markings.WECSOG - "SEMPER DREMELATUS"Comment

I would also add that WASRs are generally less accurate than the Saigas. IIRC DD Ranch or Henderson was pre-sorting WASRs for strait sight bases, etc to help with that, but the tolerances on the rest of the rifle are some of the sloppiest in the combloc AKs. They shoot, but not always straight. The WASR is what it is . . . the absolute bottom of the barrel AK variant. It's ugly, but it's still an AK. You pull the trigger, it go boom. You pull the trigger again, it go boom again. Finish the wood properly, a little decent paint, and it's a prettier bottom of the barrel AK.
SAIGA is cheaper, made in Russia, and can take a pistol grip and regular stock with a few easy mods. They also have better rivet work, generally.
I'm surprised I'm the first to give you the one and only real and true answer to this problem: Get both!
But IMHO building a kit rifle or converting a Saiga is far more satisfying than simply purchasing a bone stock gun.

At the end of the day... you are going to want an AK... convert a Saiga and spend $550 plus shipping on all the misc. parts, DROS fees, and time doing the mod (looks tricky dude) Or you can pick up cool vector rifle for $599 or WASR 10B complete with pistol grip and ready to "F" things up bro.
I'm not a Saiga hater (dude...I bought two the day I picked up my AR...one for me and the other for my pops). My dad loves his Saiga...I'm just saying...the kid has some options.Comment

I'd say convert the saiga or build out a parts kit on a NDS receiver. WASR is ok - but it really is the bottom of the barrel when it comes to AKs. I'd go Romanian AKM or Bulgarian AK-74. You'll have your own hand built - which is a lot more satisfying that buying a rifle (as others have said). There's nothing like shooting the rifle you built with your own two hands.WECSOG - "SEMPER DREMELATUS"Comment

I totally agree. i fell in love with my AR, not because it looks cool, rather due to the building process. So much fun building. I'm shopping around for an imported AK kit to use with my AMERICAN receiver.Comment

One of the reasons I love my WASR is because it is (somehow) TWICE as accurate as my former Russian SKS. My WASR will hit anything I point at @ 50+ yds.

+1 on that. Bonus is that you get a gas cutoff and flip-up tritium night sights. Problem is matching serialized Yugo M70ab1 and M70ab2 kits have been drying up fast.spend a couple more bucks and get an M70WECSOG - "SEMPER DREMELATUS"Comment

wow thanks guys for this lil exchange of ideas lol , but i think i have made my mind up, WASR-10 it is
I agree with the guys that say that the SAIGA looks like a plastic BB gun , i mean im sure its accurate and reliable, but dosent fit MY description of an AK-47.,
but this weekend was the first time i shot my SKS , and man o man is ammo expensive! lol every clip was costing me $6
(and i had my eyes closed for about the first 10-15 rounds lol! , first time shooting a rifle) but you gotta pay to play. I came to the realization that sks's and ak's are really ment to shoot the **** i mean they are accurate enough at 50 yards heck im positive its accturate at 75 maybe 100 yards but it gets expensive fast! all in all i think my second weapon will be a 22. marlin or another 22. rifle lol THEN il be looking for my WASR plus at the moment i dont think any vendor is getting supplies from romania soon
*DISCLAIMER* I probably misspelled alot of things, and i dont care...
