I'm another Swfa fan. People that say it can't compete don't know what they are talking about. I've hit a decent amount on a ten inch plate 1200 yards reaching out to 1330 yards. I'm hoping to get a 1500 next time I'm out on a calm day. At this point I am much more hindered by my trigger and my occasional flinch than by my glass.

Still, I think 10x is a little more magnification than you are looking for at your specified ranges maybe go with a variable 3-9.

Check out the Leupold 3.5-10x40 or the 4.5-14x40 both are great scopes and Leupold is offering an $80 rebate http://www.leupold.com/rewards/ if you order from Midway use their $50 off coupon for orders over $500. Promotion Code 5081277

From my limited experience I can suggest that you probably don't need much magnification. I have a Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP MRAD on a 20 moa base. I was at sac valley the other day shooting at 300/600/800/1000. I never went past about 10-12x so anything variable that goes to 15-16x is probably plenty. Also, the nice thing was that I had enough elevation to dial 12 mils up and be hitting paper at 1000 (my groups sucked but hey I hit the target). If you get a base why not just get a 20 moa base? That way if you decide to shoot at longer ranges your scope has a little more elevation in it to help you out. The other thing I wanted to add was that if I could go back and buy another scope I would very seriously consider a fixed 10x. I don't know which one, but seeing as how I shot from about 8x-13x a 10x would have been fine and then if the scope is a fixed power you don't need to worry about having FFP or SFP, your mil dots will always be correct. Also, once you shoot at a distance you will want to go farther and farther and farther.....

So to sum that up. I recommend a fixed power scope with mil/mil or moa/moa, matching is nice. Also, a 20 moa base.

Except maybe the 20MOA base, not really needed at those ranges.

Does not hurt! Better to have and not need the to need and not have!

Clear glass and actually a very well made scope. Easily matches to my friends leopold $900 scope he paid for he even said he couldn't tell the difference when looking through both.

Has plenty of adjustment for me from 50 to about 1200 yards I've only shot 200 to 1000 with it so far mounted on my 20 MOA rail. Even handled a slight tip over on rock right onto the scope with a nice scratch and it still spot on.

Probably the best scope for the price range of $300 to $400 I'd even say it could hold its own at the $700 to $900 range as well IMO.

Knob adjustments are very positive as well and have decent sized turrets. Never seen a bad review about them either. Mines also mounted on a 700.
The only thing I'd add to this is the Super Sniper. Really good scope for the money. I've cranked the knobs on it out to 500 meters and back. Always returns to zero. Great clarity, good looks, nice positive target knobs (15 MOA per revolution) and a good price. Can't beat that.

It really depends on your type of shooting for precision and non m.o.m. having a variable powered scope is nice. My SPS tactical sports a SWFA 5-20. High powered shooters go for magnification while m.o.m. (minute of man) shooters stay around the max of 10x.

Another vote for SWFA. SWFA puts out a great scope for the money. Eventually I plan to go Vortex 6.5-20 when funds allow.

I have a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50 on my 700. I my opinion you can't get a better scope for the money.

Welcome to your new addiction. Many choices on scopes but you also gotta define a budget before asking "what kind of scope should I get"

You can go for $50 to over $4k.

Personally in the $1.3k realm you gotta go for the 3.5-21 dmr g2. Comparable to NF at 1/2 the price. Look up Nathan at Short Action Precision and he can hook you up on a good deal. He's a good guy.

The Monarchs are nice scopes. The only problem I have with them is they don't have enough adjustment to reach out to longer distances.

One more vote for Vortex Viper PST. Regardless, make sure your rectile is mil - mil FFP.

Liberty Optics is a good choice for your scope purchase, Scott treats people well. He usually beats most prices too.
